Valorant Ranked Rollback: Not the Feature We Want, but the One We Need

Cheaters Beware: Valorant's New System Fights Back

Riot recently rolled out an update that would give players back their elo whenever a cheater was detected in a match, thereby stopping cheaters from ruining Valorant ranked matches for everyone.

This we believe is a step in the right direction and should be implemented across the esports industry in all competitive games.

Consider yourself a regular ranked player in a random competitive game and you would immediately understand why this update means a lot to players like you. The sinking feeling of entering a match and immediately finding out through a teammate that there is an enemy who is cheating in the lobby and you can’t help but watch that person tear your team apart and wait for the misery to end.

Now even though you report them and receive a notification a day later that they’ve been banned, you have lost some things that couldn’t have been given back to you. Your time, your mental peace, and worstly the only thing that caused all of these issues – your elo.

Well, not anymore! This is what Riot changed with the new dev update where a new anti-cheat system called Ranked rollbacks aims to combat this exact issue by detecting a cheater in a lobby and once the match ends, the lost ratings are returned to all the players except for the cheaters.

Drawing the match is a time-consuming, unsustainable method to avoid this issue, but would often only work in high-ranked lobbies where even the team with the cheater would want the cheater to not win – thereby teaming up with you to help the cheater not win or not lose the match. This method thereby is very tilt-inducing, which highlights the need for Ranked rollback even more!

Vanguard, despite being one of the better anti-cheats, cannot always detect hackers right within the matches – leading to the irreparable damage they cause to matches and lobbies, but only later send you a notification about how the reported player was banned – a consolation prize that leaves a bitter taste in the players’ mouths.

Well as of now, the idea seems more than welcome in a lot of forums, and of course, the system wouldn’t be ready to be deployed as is – due to issues such as leavers and throwers who still ruin ranked experiences. As of now the solution addresses cheaters and it’s expected that Riot will address all of these issues in the near future.

Finally, we believe that Ranked Rollback is definitely something we all had on the back of our minds, but never believed could happen – and is a welcome change that all competitive matches should implement to address player grievances
