APAC Valorant Kings Paper Rex display Incredible Prowess at VCT Masters Copenhagen

-

The Valorant Champions Tour Masters Copenhagen concluded last night with FPX(FunPlus Phoenix) edging out the APAC demons of Paper Rex to life the trophy. Despite the loss, the performance from Paper Rex was still one of the best performances by an Asian Team in any FPS esport.

Finishing as the runner-up at the event, Paper Rex had one of the most brilliant tournament runs of the event. Led by Benkai, the Paper Rex boys f0rsaken, Jinggg, Mindfreak, and D4vai displayed why they are the undisputed kings of APAC with a strong performance that was second to none.

The strength of the Paper Rex boys lies in the confident plays and the unorthodox compositions they play with. They are the only team that made Yoru look good.

Paper Rex PPRX VCT Masters Copenhagen Recap

Paper Rex came to Copenhagen with the dream of topping the performance at VCT Masters Reykjavik, where they managed to topple the EMEA top seed G2 Esports. Being the top seed from APAC, Paper Rex was directly seeded into the Playoff Stage of VCT Masters Copenhagen.

Kicking off their Copenhagen journey playing Guild Esports, Paper Rex started the tournament strong with a dominant map one against Guild, where they played around on Guild Esports’ map pick of Ascent. The second map came close, but Paper Rex came back strong and won their Opening series 2-0

Now in the upper Bracket Semifinals, against Boaster-led Fnatic, Paper Rex brought absolute Chaos into Fnatic’s strategic approach. Playing on Ascent picked by Fnatic, Paper Rex boys edged out Fnatic in the first map with a score of 13-11.

On Bind, Paper Rex brought the Yoru composition and made it work like a charm, catching Fnatic off guard and beating them 13-10 to win the series 2-0 to face Optic Gaming in the Upper Finals.

The Defending Champions of Optic Gaming were a real deal for Paper Rex, where they put up a fair fight against Paper Rex. Starting on Haven, Paper Rex on attack overwhelmed Optic Gaming and closed it on defense to win the map 13-3.

Optic answered back with Bind to force the decider, Fracture, which made Optic look bad as Paper Rex managed to shut down Optic Gaming attack with relative ease and despite losing the second pistol won the map 13-5 and the series 2-1 to lock the spot in the finals.

Reaching the finals made the run legendary, and Paper Rex was the favorite coming into the finals. With everyone supporting the Paper Rex boys, they started the Grand finals against FPX.

The Grand finals were one of the most legendary finals of Valorant history. Starting on Bind, FPX read the Paper Rex aggression perfectly to shut down Paper Rex on their map pick to take the first map.

Paper Rex answered back with similar domination winning the FPX’s map pick of Icebox without sweating much, tying the scoreline at 1-1. Fracture again fell flat for Paper Rex, with FPX reading their aggression perfectly.

Now down 1-2, Paper Rex came into Haven with a vengeance and, edging out FPX in the first half, closed out the map 13-7 to force the fifth and final map.

Paper Rex on Breeze pulled on an insane, unorthodox composition and almost made it work, falling short in the defensive half and losing the game 9-13 to miss out on the championship.

The performance was undeniably one of the most amazing, with Jinggg and f0rsaken being the top Duelist in the tournaments in terms of opening kills. And Mindfreak is one of the clutch players with a clutch percentage of 35%.

The team displayed some incredible mental prowess and strategical brilliance throughout and proved that the idea of a minor region should not exist in Valorant.
