G2 Bench HooXi

G2's Search for a New IGL Begins: Will NiKo Take the Reins?

After months of speculations, G2 has benched their heavily criticized skipper, Rasmus ‘HooXi’ Neilsen with no replacement lined up at the time of writing.

HooXi follows the footsteps of nexa who was benched earlier last week, following his disappointing performances during his second stint for the side. HooXi despite leading the team to titles like IEM Cologne and IEM Katowice during the end of the CSGO era, it was Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kovac’s leadership that brought the first title for G2 in the CS2 era.

HooXi was heavily criticised for putting up alarmingly low numbers even for an IGL. Despite volunteering to play some of the less impressive roles, which helped open up space for the star players on his team, the Dane’s lack of mechanical skills slowly started to build cracks in the G2’s tactics.

In the ever-changing meta of CS, modern teams often look up to the IGLs to show up more frequently on Killfeed which made HooXi a liability that was impossible to overlook and his shot-calling ability wasn’t enough to make up for it. Fans often called for his head when results went against G2 and finally, he parted ways with the team as they reshuffled the roster.

G2’s first trophy in CS2 came under the leadership of NiKo in Dallas and given his history of volunteering for the IGL role, we won’t put it past him to come calling for it now that it’s up for the grabs.

G2 at the moment houses arguably the best AWPer and the best rifler in the game in m0nesy and NiKo respectively who are backed by the experienced HuNter and freshly minted signing malbsMd, each player on their day and can take over a server to bring home a game.

With the abundance of talent and experience on their side, it would be a shame to see them not mark an era due to the absence of proper leadership, someone who can harness the raw talent and shape it into a team.

There are no speculated replacements at the time of writing but the news is to be expected soon given the Esports World Cup is only 14 days away.
