Valorant Regen Shield Explained: Should You Buy It?

A Deep Dive into Valorant's New Armor Type

The highly anticipated Valorant 9.10 update is finally here, and it has brought with it a plethora of new content to the competitive shooter by Riot Games. While there’s plenty of new stuff to check out in the latest Valorant patch, the addition of Regen Shield to the game has undoubtedly taken the spotlight for most players.

The Regen Shield is a new armor type in Valorant that has been introduced to the title with the 9.10 patch. Unlike the regular shields in Valorant, the Regen Shield has the unique ability to recharge over time. However, to maintain the game’s competitive integrity, the regeneration comes with certain limitations.

Valorant Regen Shield Explained

The Regen Shield in Valorant costs 650 Credits, which is 250 Credits pricier than that of the Light Shield but significantly cheaper than the Heavy Shield, which costs 1000 Credits.

Similar to the Light Shield in Valorant, the Regen Shield comes with a base armor of 25. However, unlike its cheaper variant, it absorbs 100% of the damage received before any HP reduction. Additionally, what makes the Regen Shield truly unique is its ability to recharge itself over time.

Once the 25 base armor is depleted, it automatically regenerates over time if the player is out of combat for three seconds. Note that the Regen Shield has a ‘Regeneration Pool’ of 50, which means that it will only recharge itself twice before depleting completely. This regen pool carries over but does not replenish between rounds. Players can opt to re-buy the Regen Shield to completely replenish the regen pool alongside any base armor.

Should You Buy Regen Shield in Valorant?

Valorant Regen Shield

In theory, the Valorant Regen Shield can provide more value than the Heavy Shield since it provides players with more total armor when you combine its base armor and total regen pool.

In practice, however, you’re almost always better off purchasing the Heavy Shield. Not only does the Heavy Shield protect you from Outlaw shots and Phantom headshots, but Valorant’s low time-to-kill (TTK) makes it rare for players to disengage and re-engage multiple times in a round, limiting the Regen Shield’s potential to reach full effectiveness.

With that being said, the Regen Shield can still be a solid choice for Pistol rounds, especially if you can get a teammate to drop you a Ghost or a Sheriff. It can also be a good option for when you’re low on the economy and can’t afford the Heavy Shield.

Valorant Regen Shield Stats

Below, we’ve listed the detailed stats for the Regen Shield in Valorant:

  • Cost: 650 Credits
  • Damage Absorption: 25 HP
  • Regeneration Pool: 50 HP
  • Absorbs 100% of incoming damage taken before damage to health occurs.
  • After a brief delay, the shield regenerates by draining any remaining points left in the Regeneration Pool.
