Boycott Genshin Impact Explained

The #BoycottGenshinImpact hashtag is rapidly gaining traction on social media platforms like Twitter, and a lot of people are wondering why are players looking to boycott the open-world RPG title by miHoYo all of a sudden. If you’re unaware about the reasons behind this call for boycotting Genshin Impact, we have you covered.

The controversies primarily started when a video from October 2020 resurfaced, showing that miHoYo had used indigenous people as reference for their Hillchurls’ animations and dances scattered across the game’s world.

This raised several questions from the Genshin Impact player base, a portion of whom accused the developers of racism.

Mentions of pedophilia in Genshin Impact have also been pointed out by the players while raising demands to boycott the title. Flora, who is an underaged NPC in the game’s world, is mentioned by another NPC, Ulfr, who claims to be in love with her.

Needless to say, these issues, alongside other major problems like account security have led to fans across the world boycotting the game on social media platforms.

MiHoYo has yet to release a statement regarding these accusations.
