Genshin Impact initially launched with two out of seven nations of Teyvat; Mondstadt & Liyue, and since then the game has been continuously expanding thanks to its timely updates. Last week’s 2.0 update added a third region, Inazuma along with three new playable characters Yomiya, Ayaka, and Sayu, a new gardening system, quests, artifacts, and more.
According to the lore, there are a total of seven major nations in Teyvat and each region represents an element. Mondstadt represents Anemo, while Liyue represents Geo and the newly added nation, Inazuma, represents Electro which leaves the remaining 4 regions based on Dendro (Sumeru), Hydro (Fontaine), Pyro (Natlan), and Cryo (Snezhnaya).
During Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2021, miHoYo’s producer Haoyu Cai shared an in-depth look into Genshin’s art design and worldbuilding. He also discussed the importance of character design as well as Genshin Impact’s future updates and stated that Teyvat’s nations have been planned out ever since the game went into development and that the world will evolve over time thanks to its annual updates. Players still have plenty of time to explore everything Inazuma has to offer and given Genshin’s track record, we can expect Sumeru Fontaine Natlan and Snezhnaya as part of major updates over the course of the next four years. While you wait for the next major update, here’s something you can expect in update 2.1.
