Genshin Impact Beginners Guide – Everything you need to know before starting the game

Genshin Impact is a free-to-play gacha-based, fantasy open-world, action RPG developed and published by Chinese game studio miHoYo. Launched yesterday (i.e 28th Sept) globally on PlayStation 4, PC, Android, and iOS.

In Genshin Impact, players find themselves transported to a fantasy world called Teyvat. After arriving at Teyvat the player will find themselves separated from their sibling. The Player will then go on a journey across the world finding clues about their sibling while also helping several other characters who will later join the player’s party. Each character wields unique abilities and a charming personality. So the main goals in Genshin Impact are undertaking quests, exploring the vast open-world of Teyvat, and uncovering the truth about the world’s primordial gods.

Even before its release, the game was criticized heavily for being too similar to Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild during its initial announcement in 2019. Well in terms of graphics and world design the game shares striking similarities to Nintendo’s BOTW, but unlike having a linear progression like in BOTW, Genshin Impact features unique characters each tied to the main story progression and different gameplay mechanics, making it a unique game in its own.

At launch, there are a total of 23 playable characters (including the starting character) in the game, and each character features two unique combat skills: a normal and a special skill. Each character can be controlled by the player at any given point in the game. Additionally, each of the characters would have control of one of seven natural elements i.e  Cyro, Dendro, Pyro, Hydro, Anemo, Electro, and Geo. The normal skill can be used any time, while not on cooldown. Whereas the special skill would require players to amass sufficient elemental energy to use.
