Developed by Criterion, Need For Speed Unbound is a racing game that aims to teach players how to drive faster and more safely. Its take on the genre’s most popular racing style features a number of customization options, including the ability to customize almost every part of the engine.
Despite its name, Need For Speed Unbound is actually quite short, averaging around 19 hours of gameplay. It also comes with a free 10-hour trial. It’s available on PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Windows PC. It’s not on older systems, though.
Compared to the previous Need for Speed games, Unbound is a much more polished, feature-rich game. Its story isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but it’s still entertaining. The story centers on revenge against a former friend.
Need For Speed Unbound has a few other noteworthy features, including a new art style, anime-inspired smoke plumes, and hand-drawn tire smoke. It also includes a performative police feature. Unlike most racing games, you can theoretically get busted at any point. This is a nice touch, but makes it seem like it’s too good to be true.
Need For Speed Unbound has dozens of cars to choose from. These range from a shitbox to a top-heavy Subaru. There are also tons of body parts to customize the cars, including paint and wraps. It’s also worth noting that you can place bets on your finishing position. If you’re not the fastest, you might end up losing cash if a cop chases you.
