How To Play CSGO After CS2 Release?

After a long wait and an extensive limited test phase, Valve has officially launched Counter Strike 2 to the title’s eager player base on September 27, 2023. The CS2 launch also brought alongside it a plethora of new changes to the shooter aiming to improve matchmaking, fix underlying issues, and more, but a portion of the game’s community is still unhappy with the current state of the CSGO sequel.

If you’re finding yourself dissatisfied with Counter Strike 2, or simply longing to relive the nostalgia of the original, you might wonder, “Can I still play CSGO after the release of CS2?” Fortunately, the answer is yes.

Players are still able to play their beloved FPS title CSGO even after the release of CS2, but there are certain limitations to it. In this article, we’re about to check out how you can download and install CSGO right now on your PC via Steam.

How To Install CSGO After CS2 Release

Whether you’re eager to hop onto a CSGO custom game with your friends or simply looking to refine your surfing skills before community servers are added to CS2, we have you covered.

Playing CSGO on your PC after the release of CS2 is entirely possible and you can do it in just a few steps. Without further ado, let’s check out how you can install CSGO on your PC right away.

  • Launch Steam.
  • Right click ‘Counter-Strike 2’ from your Steam library.
  • Click on ‘Properties’.
  • Go to ‘Betas’.
  • Change ‘Beta Participation’ from ‘None’ to ‘csgo_demo_viewer’.

Once done, you’ll see that Steam will automatically start downloading files for CSGO on your PC.

Let the download finish, and launch CS2. You should be greeted with the CSGO main menu after you launch the game and you’re free to play your favorite FPS title once again.

However, do note that you’re not able to participate in official matchmaking games from your CSGO client, which means that you won’t be able to queue for Competitive, Casual, or any other official modes. Community servers and custom games work normally.

Interestingly, at the time of writing, players are also able to purchase and open capsules from the CSGO client.
