s1mple no more in Team Liquid

0

Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev has been playing with Team Liquid for just over four months now and earlier today the organisation released a statement announcing that he will be leaving the team.

During his time on Team Liquid S1mple became the star player showcasing his amazing skills against other top level teams. Team Liquid announced that the reason s1mple is leaving is because he friends and family as well as his concern over his role in the team.

For the time being, s1mple will remain a streamer with Team Liquid until s1mple gets picked up by another organisation.  Eric “adreN” Hoag will be replacing s1mple which is partially ironic because S1mple replaced adreN when joining the team at the start of the year.

Team Liquid recently finished top four at the recent major,  MLG Columbus. s1mple was one of the top performers of the entire tournament so its not doubt that supporters are surprised about this announcement.

How team brutality drove Indian Esports in the right direction

1

Team Brutality the front-runner with the Indian flag at ESEA League Season 21 are all set to compete the Indonesian lineup at the grand finals on 22nd of April, stream will be made available by ESEA. We sat down with Brutal RiX to get some details about their preparations for the finals, we got some.

After, we covered the story of our beloved Counter Strike: Global Offensive roster which are en-route to the grand finals happening the day after tomorrow, we got loads of responses and best wishes for the Mumbai based roster. The messages were so overwhelming we thought not to have them solely on our inboxes and contacted Team Brutality’s one of the founding member, Aakash ‘RiX’ More to share with him.

Brutal rix

We were digging some of the insiders of the foundation of Team Brutality and gathered some rare and fun facts from within the organization from the players itself. Read below the interaction between our Sports Journalist Sajid ‘evo’ Paik and Brutal RiX.

We all know from where do you belong, please tell us what we don’t know, about your previous association other than Brutality?

RIX: Way back in CS 1.6 I was in Team Wolf which I joined with my friend Sangram . I’ve never been the guy who keeps jumping teams for short term profits, I prefer playing with friends and enjoying the time I play with them. After Team Wolf it was Team Brutality which I myself made along with V3nom.

Your role is in the team as an AWPER, did you chose it or it chose you?

RIX: I was an all rounder since 1.6, I was good with assault rifles and awp both but back in Team Wolf when I recruited V3nom I had to step away from awping since he was a full time awper but now in CS GO V3nom is much better with rifles than with an awp and since we don’t have a dedicated awper in the team I took it to myself to be the awper that my team needs.

Roughly for how many years have Brutal Rix been playing Counter Strike franchise as a whole?

brutal rix

RIX: Around 12+ years for sure. I started playing CS 1.5 in cafes, those were the good old days when everyone sat together and played all day long.

You are into the finals of ESEA League Season 21 facing team Signature, what’s your special strategy?

RIX: Nothing special to be honest, we will just try to play our game and be confident in our play style. Whenever we try to do something extraordinary it doesn’t work out so we don’t want to repeat that mistake. We will just keep our basics right, focus on our trading and play as a unit. If we do all this correctly, I don’t think there is any need of a special strategy.

Have you ever faced team Signature before in any friendly matches?

RIX: We have played a few scrims with them but that was a long time ago. We also met them in this season of ESEA and lost Cache 16-5. They are a good team and one of the best in Asia but if everyone hits their shots on our side, we might just win this. Let’s see how the finals go, I have my fingers crossed.

Who will be the IGL for that game?

RIX: For this game I think Fox will be leading us. He was the one doing it in the semi finals as well and it worked out for us. Though we do have Ad1 and V3nom to fall back on if fox is having a bad day reading our opponents. In our team there is no fixed IGL, everyone has the experience and we just go with the one who is feeling confident to lead on the match day.

Team Brutality looks great as a brand-name what are your plans for future endeavor with the organization?

RIX: Thank you for the complement. I would say we have planned a few things for this year but are still sceptical whether to go ahead with them or not. We will take a call depending on how the scene progresses. For now our focus will only be on our CSGO squad as we want them to get better and make a consistent place for themselves in Asia.

Your team is the only consistent team in India with such a strong fanbase and sponsors on papers, how does it feel to represent in India at such a big stage? Does the pressure uphelds?

brutal rix

RIX: I sure take great pride in representing our country where ever we play. I won’t lie, there is a lot of pressure when there are so many fans rooting for you to perform and beat teams from different countries. You just have to be confident and everything works out fine. Our aim is always to play for our fans and country and to make them proud. We feel blessed to have these amazing people around us who keep supporting and help us get good results. Also when we are going through a rough patch these wonderful people are always there to help us get back up and we are thankful to them for being so kind to us. We promise that we will keep trying our best to make all of you happy.

We see lineup changes very often in our scene. At the beginning Brutality was not doing well. Did you ever feel that you need to join another team? You being one of the oldest player in the Indian counter strike scene what was your thought process.

RIX: When CSGO came out, me and my teammates didn’t really switch from 1.6 to CSGO right away but after a year or so. I was convinced that CSGO was the future and started playing/learning it, my teammates still stuck to CS 1.6 though. CSGO is way more tactical than 1.6 was and once I got the basic hang of how to play it my thought process was to teach my old teammates from 1.6 how to play CSGO. Being in the gaming scene for more than 10 years, I knew it’s no use to make a team with players who keep switching teams and have ego issues and so on. Sometimes they want to leave the current team and join other team or they want to kick out someone from the current team and bring in new players. Its fine I understand that sometimes changing players is necessary but in Indian gaming scene it’s pretty much due to mood and ego of players so if I want my own team I have to make a team with players whom I trust. I think success comes with team work and synergy, you need to have a strong bond between your teammates, you can’t have 5 good individual players in a team and expect it to have very good results all the time.

Faze is a perfect example of such a team which consists of 5 good individual players. I knew we won’t have good results right from the start, it takes time to get everything and everyone working as a team, to be on the same page and eventually you will find success if you practice together.

You share a good bond with V3nom during your games, is the duo blended well even off-screen?

In Brutality I never felt that I needed to leave this team and join some other team because of few back to back losses. I was confident that one day we will make it to the top as everything takes time and my synergy with V3nom and his attitude towards the team and managing skills are impeccable. I also wish for a team on which I can rely on so it was no surprise that I got into my teaching shoes and started teaching my old teammates from CS 1.6. V3nom is my oldest student haha, I taught him how to play CS 1.6 and the legacy continued in CS GO as well xD He is by far the best captain in our scene at least I would say. He is the one who keeps everyone in their limits and also enjoys and creates that magic which a team should have. Without a doubt I can say that we 2 are a deadly combo 😀

Any final shoutouts to the community from Brutal RiX?

RIX: I would specially like to thank Zotac India, G2A and SoStronk for their tremendous support towards the team. Also rest of our sponsors Gunnar Optiks, Esportclothing, Antec, MadCatz and LXG for helping us get this far. Last but not the least our fans who have been an important part of this organisation and TalkEsport for always being there in appreciating our efforts in one way or the other.

NiP champions at DreamHack Masters Malmö

1

Ninjas in Pyjamas have won the DreamHack Masters Malmö 2016 title defeating the Ukrainian lineup Natus Vincere 2-0 in the best of 3 grand finals, 16-14 in dust2 and 16-14 in cobblestone subsequently. They grabbed $100,000 in the bank, a title won after a 18-months unsuccessful run.

After Na`Vi’s strong presence of confidence over EnVyUs which lead them into the finals, they didn’t seem to be reluctant. They already had an idea on their opponents to be rock-solid after the Swedes performed in-and-out in the tournament’s best matchup at the time when NiP finally made into the finals defeating GODSENT at the edge with a scoreline of 2-1.

NiP champions

Edward was famous during 1.6 times for his massive presence and control on the USP, he showed exactly the same thing at the first round of the first map (dust2) with a quad kill followed by some eco rounds which then led the final scoreline after a couple of gun rounds to a 4-3 in favor of Swedes. Na`Vi however didn’t let the storm destroy the settlement and with the likes of GuardiaN who picked a quad kill, they were able to lead the map in the first half with the scoreline of 9-6 in favor of Na`Vi.

Na`Vi surged ahead with a second pistolround win (and along these lines won both guns on the map) yet a progression of P250 kills by NiP on the following round all of a sudden gave NiP an unforeseen round win and the energy important to trump Na`Vi.

Xizt stood up

NiP started to pull away in rounds, with Landström grabbing a triple execute on the twentieth round and Christopher “GeT_RiGhT” Alesund getting a quad, the following round as the Swedish group exhibited unstoppable cautious set-ups. With the score at 15-12 for NiP, Sergey “starix” Ischuk attempted to bring his group once more into the game with a progression of T-side wins, however a strong hold by the Ninjas gave them the 30th round on the map and a win on Dust2: 16-14.

Navi at Malmo

Cobblestone saw an extremely sure NiP hostile blast onto the B-site and a T-side pistolround went the method for the Swedes. Taking after effective hostile to ecos, Na`Vi got the primary gunround yet a progression of AK47 passages by Alesund on the fifth round put the Swedish group back in the driver’s seat with a 4-1 score. The Swedish group moved as far as possible up to a 7-3 score on their T-side before Na`Vi got up from the Eternal Dungeon of Tilt and, with Denis “seized” Kostin driving in a progression of multifrags and grips, it was Na`Vi who completed the half up at 8-7.

The big plays from GTR and f0rest

NiP champions

Na`Vi took their T-side gun a short time later and made it look as though the map was adequately over as they at last soared ahead to a 13-7 score however NiP appeared to be resolved to make the diversion a nail-biter and started their own particular rebound on their CT-side. With the score at 13-12 for Na`Vi, Alesund was set in a one-versus-two circumstance and the virtuoso of grasping just about figured out how to make the round work to support him however Kovács pulled off a fast AWP slaughter to win the round and keep the group ahead.

NiP champions

The following round turned into a hard reset for Danylo “Zeus” Teslenko and co. as strong barrier on the A-site from Friberg set NiP back in order and, taking after a full eco, the score remained at 14-14. A B-site hold gave NiP the match point which implied Na`Vi needed to depend on a blend purchase on the last round of the guide yet it was without any result and the Swedish group took the guide 16-14 and won the occasion before a home-crowd.

Na`Vi into the finals of DreamHack Masters Malmö

1

The breathtaking first semi-final came to an end with Na`vi making their spot into the Grand finals of DreamHack Masters Malmö happening later today, they will be facing the winners of the second semi-final between GODSENT and NiP.

The first map chosen by Na’Vi, dust2 started off with EnVyUs winning the pistols lead by quad kill by KennyS. As the game progressed Na’Vi looked stronger side when they were able to pull rounds after rounds with Edward’s sleeky play on Edge he still managed to grabbed some clutches just in favor of Na’Vi. In any case, once Na`Vi at long last purchased up the scene of the diversion changed drastically as the CIS-based side, fueled by an electrifying showcase from Denis “seized” Kostin, won 11 of the accompanying 12 rounds to take a summoning lead going into the break.

NAVI Zeus

In the second half, EnVyUs demonstrated by and by their considerable gun play and took after that up with both hostile to ecos to give themselves a battling possibility. Notwithstanding, the diversion took after the same example from the primary half as Na`Vi took control of the match in firearm play, taking five adjusts straight to seal an insistent 16-7 achievement.

Disappointing performance by KennyS

The second map was no different, Inferno, which usually favors EnVyUs, but this time it shattered their dreams completely as they lost momentum at the very begining. On Inferno, Na`Vi took interestingly an early lead in the diversion, with EnVyus answering in the opening weapon round with dual amazing picks by NBK at B entrance. In any case, they were set back in the accompanying round by seized, who grabbed a trio while defending B bombsite on his own. Na`Vi in no mood to delay their entry any further made their lead solid as steel to a 13-2 half-time lead before heaping more wretchedness on EnVyUs in the second half by taking three back to back rounds.

The second half started with apeX completely lost in the middle, picked up by Edward following some picks from EnVyUs making it a difficult 2vs2, only ended up flamie clutching 1v2 with a tec9 stepping up getting a quad kill in the pistol round making it 14-3 Ukrainian favorable. There was no hope for the french side as the whole of Na`Vi lineup seemed chargedup the whole game to clinch the map point closing it in a depressing scoreline of  16-3 in a semi final of this class.

Masters, DreamHack Masters is all set to complete its this year run at Malmö. The five-day long $250,000 event showcased some of the breathtaking matches and results to remember forever along with an additional development of the Asian scene alltogether after a breahtaking performance by TyLoo at the group stages and playoffs.

Today, the event will complete its tenure for this year with two classical semi-finals and a grand match to award the winner. The first semi-final match will be between Na`Vi and EnVyUs where both of them look strong and subtle in taking their journey and making this master a victory record in their portfolio. The second semifinal will be GODSENT vs NiP, a fun match to watch to as to whom the crowd will be supporting. Both the teams at home-ground performing before their audiences, both of them want to prove themselves at this stage of the game.

GODSENT – the pronax dreamPronax GODSENT

The ex-fnatic leader who said in an interview that he’ll be well off playing for a different team since his lack of top performance at fnatic made unfortunate results at a major.  The team which formed roughly 10-days-ago already have come through a long way ahead of Astralis, mousesports, CLG, Luminosity and Liquid. The lineup, lead by pronax followed by Twist, Lekr0, pauf and znajder are sweden’s yet another strongest Counter Strike lineup to face-off against their rebel rivalary Ninjas in Pyjamas. The match favorites are definitely NiP, but there’s much too see from GODSENT, as they have been playing flawless as a team with individual skill taking over at essential rounds.

Players to look for would be Xizt and pronax, since they have been stepping up to perform for their team at the much needed time, this will be the perfect moment to showcase their skills while on board facing a touch elimination match versus the country favorites.

GuardiaN vs KennyS

The two best AWPers in the world right now will face-off against each other at the semifinal number one. Na`Vi as a team look strong compared to EnVyUs, it is the rifflers who supports the AWPer in many ways so as to give them a breathing space to play comfortably not worrying about not having their backs. GuardiaN was very confident the last day at stage even after his serious wrist injury, he seemed totally recovered by the style of his gameplay. KennyS on the other hand isn’t a player which fails to perform at this stage, he doesn’t need support from his players in order for himself to perform. He can outplay some of the great teams in the world when it comes to putting his skills to display. No matter on how both the teams perform, this individual battle will be the most exciting of all!

Ninjas in Pyjamas are through to the semi-final stage at DreamHack Masters Malmö after seeing off Virtus.pro 2-0 (16-12 on Cache and Train).

Ninjas in Pyjamas have defeated Virtus.Pro 2-0 in a best-of-three quarter finals beating them on cache and train with the score line ot 16-12 on each maps. NiP will play GODSENT on Sunday at 3 PM IST in the first semi-finals of DreamHack Masters Malmö 2-16.

Virtus.Pro vs NiP

Starting off the game on cache with f0rest showing some jaw-dropping skills and getting a tripple in the very first round, followed by the victory on anti-ecos. Until then, when VP stepped up as a team on riffle rounds where they played some clean rounds and settled the scoreboard to a 3-3 matchup. NiP showed great presence of mind and were able to pull rounds after rounds which sent VP to a non-retunrable deephole.

Xizt also showed a great individual skillplay to clear the final section of rounds with tripples and doubles in the A site which the Polish side weren’t able to answer back and they ended up on the heavy-hearted side with a score line of unfavorable 12-16 in the first map.

To begin with a fresh start and to tackle the skyhigh confidence level of NiP after the first win, train started with VP getting the first picks almost every round which the rest of the players weren’t able to conver them into a round in their favor. Things weren’t looking bad as VP took an enermous run alltogether and were managed to put the score line at 10-14 even though losing the pistol rounds and the following anti-ecos.

The game finally made its way back to NiP’s side after f0rest showed up with three massive kills at outer train stepping up as the leader of the team which shattered the dreams of VP to be able to win the game and finally with the support and chants of home-crowd, NiP finished the final map even to the scoreline of 16-12, concluding their victory over VP to a 2-0 in a best-of-three.

Pronax lead GODSENT quashes mousesports at DreamHack Malmö

GODSENT defeated mousesports 2-1 in the third quarter-final of the day and managed to advance to the semis (7-16 on Cache, 16-10 on Inferno, 16-13 on Mirage) at DreamHack Masters Malmö, they will play the winners of the fourth quarter-final, NiP vs Virtus.Pro.

DreamHack Masters Malmö proceeded with mousesports tackling GODSENT.

Mousesports began on the CT-side of Cache and had a decent begin as they won the gun round. The primary weapon round additionally went mousesports’ direction and the disorder followed in the 6th one as GODSENT took the A-site however the bomb grower smoldered in view of a molotov which gave mouz their 6th round (6-0).

GODSENT secured their first round on the A-site and Simon “turn” Eliasson got a quad-slaughter in the accompanying round to make it 6-2. Chris “chrisJ” de Jong’s sneak play brought about a round triumph for the German group however GODSENT took the last two rounds of the half (8-7). Nikola “NiKo” Kovač had a quad-execute with his Deagle in the gun round to help his group get their ninth round and the German group went ahead to secure the principal weapon round too. Timo “Spiidi” Richter grabbed the section execute and the triple to accomplish the 21st round as GODSENT trailed 7-14. mousesports won the guide without dropping a solitary round on their T-half and the last score was 16-7.

GODSENT

Inferno, which was picked by GODSENT, commenced with mousesports’ gun round triumph on the T-side as Johannes “nex” Maget got a triple-execute. In the wake of winning the counter eco rounds mousesports extended their lead to 4-0 in the wake of gaining the primary weapon round with “denis” Howell’s twofold section. It at long last worked out for the Swedes in the fifth round despite the fact that they just had a MAG-7 and a M4A1-S (4-1). The CT-sided GODSENT hurried from all sides to get their third cycle (3-5). The seven round dash of GODSENT finished a round before the halftime as they drove 8-6. Howell got two passage slaughters and a quad-murder in the last round of the half and mousesports figured out how to complete the half with seven rounds.

Jonas “Lekr0” Olofsson appeared with two passage slaughters of his own and GODSENT secured the gun cycle (9-7). The fourth round was won by the German group and they secured one more before losing a hostile to eco (12-9). Eliasson’s 1v2 practically finalized the negotiations as GODSENT were in front with a 14-9 score. The Swedes won the guide 16-10.

The last map was Mirage and the CT-sided mousesports got yet another gun round in the arrangement. The German group lost the third round to their rival’s Deagles however won the fourth one. GODSENT applied their T-side predominance after this point and were driving 7-4 yet they disintegrated in two or three after plant circumstances incorporating a 4v2 in the thirteenth round. The Swedish group drove 8-7 at halftime. Unsuprisingly, the pattern lived on and Kovač’s group won the gun and the resulting two rounds, driving 10-8. A brisk A-site execute by mouz secured the another round for the German group however GODSENT replied with three rounds of their own to take tie it at 11-11. Richter and Kovač grasped a 2v4 to take back the lead. GODSENT won the match 16-13 and the arrangement 2-1 as Mathias “pauf” Köhler grasped a 1v2 in the last round.

EnVyUs through to semis, eliminate dignitas from Dreamhack Malmö

0

EnVyUS have made their way to semi-finals of DreamHack Masters Malmö 2016, after beating dignitas 2-0 in a best-of-3 match up. Dignitas will go home disappointed but subsequently witnessed some top-class performances from Kjaerbye, RUBINO and MSL stepping in for their team.

With a match up similar to the first quarters between Na’Vi and TyLoo, this was also such matchup which started off with a great balanced battle and fell apart as match progressed. Started out with inferno where dignitas in no time took the standard 3-0 lead with pistols and eco rounds, just before EnVyUs took back the responsibility and were about to settle the scoreboard to 3-3 until the best play of the tournament (yet) from Kjaerbye came up, where he managed to pull-off a 1v5 ninja-defuse by killing the bomb protector and totally bluffing the other four players who were lurking to hunt him down on the other side of the map.

Thanks to dignitas and EnVyUs, we witnessed the best match of the tournament yet with massive plays and showcase of individual skillplay, diginitas pulled-off yet another insane full-eco round versus EnVyUs’s rifles. The match proved be one of the best matches of this season, MSL and RUBINO taking on the responsibility to acquire the impossible rounds. The half ended up 10/5 in favor of dignitas. But only to start once again with EnVyUs storm where they managed to clinch subsequent 5 rounds in a row to settle the scores at 10-10, from there the game completely favored the french lineup and they ended up beating Dignitas 16/12 even after an amazing 1vs3 clutch pulled off by Kjaerbye.

The second map, mirage, chosen by dignitas started well off for EnVyUs where they stormed the lead by 7-0 forcing dignitas to make mistakes repeatedly. EnVyUs claimed yet another 8 round lead soon after RUBINO assisted a round with his tripple kill-skill. Next half of the map started on a possitive note with dignitas clinching the pistol round only to lose the next anti-eco. EnVyUs didn’t stop looking for some treasures and they landed their scoreboard tickling at map-and-match point. dignitas, however, didn’t lose hope as they managed to take win 6 rounds followed by an ace by RUBINO and a very important clutch by MSL with 5 hp remaning. The map ended in favor of EnVyUs 16/8 and they qualified for the semi-finals happening tomorrow at the DreamHack Masters.

TyLoo, you made Asia proud at DreamHack Masters Malmö

1

TyLoo, the Asian squad which made a long way to get into DreamHack Masters Malmö has been proudly eliminated from the tournament after losing 2-0 against Na`Vi in a best-of-3 quarter finals.

After knocking out the MLG Columbus and NA-hope, Luminosity out of the tournament, TyLoo were grabbing some eyeballs and gathering a strong fan-base in Malmö.

Lots of Counter Strike fanatics who follow the professional scene from a long period, know about TyLoo and their organization. CaptainMo the pro-TyLoo chief, who’s leading the Chinese roster from Counter Strike: 1.6 era, made it very clear in today’s match, even with lack of experience at major events, they managed to put Na`Vi under fear of clouds by their impressive gameplay.

The tough battle

TyLoo
Win against Luminosity at the group stages

The best-of-3 quarter finals starting with inferno gave TyLoo a very tedious start whereas, Na`Vi leading the charts in the first half, soon after getting things back on track and filling the missing X factor, they managed to bring the map fight neck-to-neck at a point of time. Unfortunate as it seems, Na`Vi showcased their experience managed to beat TyLoo on the first map with a scoreline ahead of not short than 6 odd rounds among which GuardiaN proved his best of recovery from his wrist injury by taking clutches rounds in favor of the Ukrainian side.

The second map, mirage, started with the dejected back-logs of the previous map, where Na’vi showed no sympathy towards their pristine opponents and thrashed them brutally with the scoreline headed towards 13-2 in the first half of the map. The final half started with TyLoo losing the first round but somnehow were able to convert the miserably lost-pistol round into a second anti-eco win. The CIS team won the final map with a strong score of 16-5 with a phenomenal ace by GuardiaN to send TyLoo back home.

What went wrong? Rather, what was right.

TyLoo

Nobody expected an Asian team to be there at such a stage where professional teams who frequently match-up between themselves were not able to qualify for play-offs but TyLoo went through. Not be to said tough, but the Chinese lineup was drawn in group A which had Luminosity, the recent Major champion alongside, mousesports and Team Liquid. The win against Luminosity was in itself an achievement to store in the drawer for the rest of their career.

Following the mega-win over Luminosity and a tough battle against one of the world’s top team, Na`Vi, TyLoo will have time for their homework, Valve will have their radar on for the next events and the other Asian teams will have an inspiration and journey to follow. TyLoo has created a space at the majors for Asian teams and it is time now to bring back the Asian-fear among the CS community world-wide by our performances at these major stages.

American physician Dr. Harrison on healthcare for competitive eSports players

1

As we are constantly reporting about the sick health and injuries faced by some of the top Counter Strike: Global Offensive players, we bring to you the best discussion in terms of technicality. Which mouse you should use, what sensitivity, how many hours a day gaming, what exercises and etc. Dr. Levi Harrison shared some eye-opening facts of FPS gamers and shared some tips to get them going.

Given our increasing reliance on technology, we might find ourselves spending more and more time in front of our computers. While most of us use them daily for work, many of our readers are spending several hours a day gaming. Some of you may have experienced discomfort brought on by lengthy gaming sessions, and others may be suffering from prolong use of a mouse which may have brought on repetitive stress injuries or carpal tunnel syndrome. These injuries, while mostly a nuisance, can be severe and you can actually hinder your abilities if they’re not taken care of early on in your gaming career.

Dr. Levi Harrison, according to his Twitter bio, is an “Orthopedic Surgeon, Physician, Health & Fitness Coach, Author, Motivational Speaker, eSports Doctor & Fan.” A few days ago a follower tweeted asking questions about the topic at hand, which Dr. Levi said he would elaborate on in an article. The eSports Doctor delivered, and this is honest a must read for all gamers. His Twitter is filled with at home stretches and exercises for those who do not have the time, or cannot afford, to go to the gym.

Dr. Levi Harrison’s opinion on Mouse sensitivity, gaming and RSI

Choose your arsenal

palm-grip-mouse

His initial point talks about mice being ergonomic, and while they state they are, these ergonomics may differ from person to person. He’s correct in saying that very few of us get the opportunity to try a mouse out before we purchase it, and this of course leads us to use whatever we purchase, and this can damage your hand/wrist.

“Ideally, you want your fingertips to line up with the edge of the clicking point. Many RSI conditions develop because of hyperextension or hyperflexion, in which your fingers and wrist must flex, or reach an unnatural distance based on their current position. Overreaching on a mouse can cause tension on the tendons and anatomical structures of the hand, and as you can imagine, those micro stressors can add up over the course of a long gaming session. This also causes extreme fatigue of the small muscles of the hand, hence allowing for the possibility of developing RSI. At the end of the day, this may be a perpetuating component of RSI, but may also inhibit your efficiency in accurate and efficient clicking.”

There are a number of professional players who have suffered from RSI or CTS in the past, and you’ll often see them doing certain hand warm-up techniques prior to playing. Dr. Levi also has  YouTube channel where he has offered a number of guides on how to warm-up your hand prior to playing.

High versus Low DPI

Gaming Mouse DPI

You DPI and sensitivity play a much more crucial role in your physical health than you’d have previously thought. According to Dr. Levi RSI and CTS are more common in gamers who use a higher DPI and make use of flicking and faster movements to force accuracy. These are common in MOBA and RTS games such as Starcraft II and League of Legends.

“In observing high sensitivity play, it is clear that there is more of an isolation of the hand and wrist in regards to movement. These players will flick their wrists aggressively, hence engaging the anatomical structures that are at risk for developing RSI including the carpal tunnel, the wrist, joints, tendons, etc. Often, these fast wrist movements can cause the hand position to remain in an unnatural, strained, or obtuse angle, which in turn, may incite inflammation from this aggravating motion.”

Your FPS players might opt for the lower DPI option as movements are more controlled and precise.

“Low sensitivity on the other hand seems to encourage a more controlled style of play, which is conducive to keeping the wrist in a neutral position, hence promoting proper ergonomics. Also, it seemed as if individuals using lower DPI were engaging their shoulder, forearm, and upper extremity in more of a natural, evenly distributed fashion, hence, distributing the workload across the upper extremity, rather than focusing all of the strain on a rapid, sharp wrist movement.”

Personally for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive I use a DPI of 400 and sensitivity of 6. Although the sensitivity is higher, my movements are a lot slower and more precise. I’ve also been lucky enough to test and try a number of mice before I settled on the Steelseries Kinzu v2. It’s a medium mass mouse, ergonomically designed to fit your hand, but I have heard of gamers who feel it’s a bit too big.
