DreamHack eSports director opens up at alleged assault

The eSports and tournament Director has now made a statement regarding the ugly spat on DreamHack where two of the most senior public figures from DotA 2 and CS:GO were allegedly involved in a physical assault.

With DreamHack officially banning Lewis from all the further tournaments and events happening. HellSpawn, the Director at DreamHack went to twitter to clear the air and the confusion as it what actually happened at backstage and who was at fault.

You can find his complete statement below:

I was advised to be silent but I can’t stand it anymore. @RLewisReports strangled @LodaBerg and I was the one who with force stopped Richard so he wouldn’t deeply injure Loda, or worse. I don’t know what would have happened if I wasn’t there.

I came down and saw Richard and Kelly having a huge verbal dispute. I took the position between the two and when Kelly walked off I tried to calm Richard down and advised him to let this go as it wasn’t worth it.

While talking to Richard, Loda pops up without me really being able to react. Loda didn’t touch Lewis but aggressively approached Richard. There was a fast and aggressive conversation where Loda said “I’m here, yes it’s me”. Suddenly Richard attacked Loda and started to strangle him.

Who strangles another when threatened? That’s beyond me! It wasn’t like Richard tried to push Loda away and accidentally hit his throat. No, Richard grabbed Lodas throat with both hands and pushed him backwards towards the ground while strangling what to me looked very hard.

I grabbed Richard and pulled him through the door. I was upset and sad that he had fucked up the situation so badly as I had tried to calm him down. This story was given as a witness to the police on site.

Later on DreamHack staff was able to get both parties to agree to settle this and move on. Loda wanted a guarantee that Richard wouldn’t spin this online which they both eventually agreed on.

Since then Richard have according to me, spinned this as much as he can in all direction to try to become the victim and to bait people like me to overstep and react.

Here is the truth from someone who witnessed this from a 1 meter distance and had to act with civil courage and wanted to settle this to move on without this being a public circus and popularity contest.

YellOwStaR departs from fnatic

0

There has been a numerous amount of swaping being done at the fnatic HQ at te League of Legends roster and it has led to loads of queries, questions and development of doubtful competence in the organization’s roster. And one more blow to the team as YellOwStaR departs.

707x0_crop-80

As reported by the content head of fnatic, ‘Shouren’ Craig Ting, Bora had his priorities set to a new level of experiences and tryouts in certain fresh fields and fnatic wouldn’t resist individuals to be in the organization unwillingly. He added:

As the in-game corner stone of the 2015 team, and Fnatic brand ambassador at large, we were looking at the prospect to have YellOwStaR within our organisation for many more years, not just as a player but as core member of the Fnatic organization. As our discussions continued, it became apparent that desires for different experiences and new challenges were very high on his list of priorities. Even though our offer remained higher than others and included more long term ways to be rewarded, YellOwStaR valued challenging himself and experiencing new things above all else, and we understand and respect his decision to head abroad.

YellOwStaR’s spent five years playing in the European League of Legends scene and the majority of his career flying fnatic’s flag. He’s now chosen to experience a new environment and culture outside of the EU LCS in Berlin and his homeland of France, where he’s lived and gamed for many years, even before his League career.

Bora “YellOwStaR” Kim’s comment on the departure made it very clear that is was pre-determined and he had the plans to try a new set of experiments in his future course of the eSports career. His full statement on the announcement as follows:

Starting today, I will no longer be part of Fnatic.
My Esports journey as a real professional player all started in 2013. It was a tough choice, a huge turn in my life to finally decide to quit university to take a lifetime opportunity to experience this amazing path and get to work with awesome people. In the first place, I want to thank the 2013 League of Legends’ roster for choosing me over other players. I was joining the biggest European team and with such players, it is hard to show that you are the missing piece of the puzzle, to gain the trust from your teammates, staff and the fans. It was with a lot of pressure that I accepted to face this challenge.

Three years passed by, and i can tell you that we tried our very best every day, every minute of the time we had in front of us to train and play. I’m incredibly proud of this 5 EU LCS titles we grabbed out of 6 possible, without missing these both Top 3/4 at Worlds 2013 & 2015 !
To speak out the truth, I had a bit of a shaky year earlier this season. Being left alone in the team was not an easy task to handle, either for me of the Fnatic management, and i had a lot of thoughts about whether retiring or not. I almost gave up, i have to admit. Imagine yourself in front of the Everest mountains that you have to climb in a very short period of time, with a huge storm approaching, and you get an image of what was ahead of us. The fact is that in my inner self, i couldn’t accept to jump out from a tough situation. Fnatic gave me so much, you guys gave me so much with your support, that I had to get this team back on track.

Being grateful and loyal is a part of me, and that was the least I could do.

Here we are today: Huni & ReignOver left the team, leaving me again in a difficult position : either building a new team or considering other options. It’s never a good thing to hear, but after careful overall reflection, I had the opportunity to join a team being at my best level in North America and get the chance to experience a new lifestyle and environment.

After a careful overall reflection, i took the decision to join the North American LCS for the 2016 season.

Finally, I honestly want to thank everyone that I met and got to work with, from teammates to people involved in the Fnatic organization and all the fans that supported me throughout the years.

I hope that you will understand my decision and will continue to support me in my career!

Sincerely yours,

Bora “YellowStar” Kim

As of now fnatic doesn’t have a complete roster and they are subsequently looking forward to assign a couple of new players so as to compete in the upcoming tournaments.

Vici Gaming signs a $860,000 deal with Easyhoon

0

A League of Legends establishment in China just exchanged one of a year ago’s title holders for a more current adaptation.

Vici Gaming today marked mid laner Lee “Easyhoon” Ji-hoon, the understudy of SK Telecom T1’s prevailing Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok. While Easyhoon rode the seat for the greater part of SKT’s street to winning the big showdown this year, it wasn’t for absence of ability. Numerous think of him as one of the best mid laners on the planet, yet he’s been dominated by Faker, the best player to ever touch League of Legends.

44

Easyhoon’s expansion implies Vici Gaming must make another program move. Cho “Mata” Se-hyoung, a different universe champ close by PawN and DanDy in 2014, will be leaving the group, Naver reports. The bolster player won the Worlds MVP a year ago yet had a rough season in China on Vici Gaming, and with just two spaces permitted in the beginning lineup for remote players on a Chinese group, Mata is the oddball.

“The reason why I decided to transfer…is not because of my teammates or the coaching staff, that decision… I held after playing the Semifinals match at the 2015 World Championship. I had gotten the opportunity to play on a big stage, and the first, second matches were satisfactory. So, I thought that I would be able to play the third match, but ultimately ended up being substituted out. After I descended from the stage and Sang-hyeok showed up, everyone started to chant out his name, ‘Faker.’

After coming down from that stage, I had a lot of thoughts. ‘What kind of meaning will I end up having on this team?’ ‘And in the end, isn’t what people want the most, ‘Faker’…’”

It’s also a prudent decision for his future. At 24 years of age, a pro gamer for four years, Easyhoon is now an esports veteran whose career may not last forever.

“If I was a little younger, I would’ve liked to move to another Korean team and face off against [Faker],” he said, “Due to the ambitions of being a player. It would be a meaningful challenge, if I were to face against him once more.”

As an individual from Vici Gaming, that won’t happen unless Easyhoon takes his group to the worldwide stage. On the off chance that he keeps on building off his amazing structure on control mages like Azir and Ziggs, that just may be probable for Vici Gaming, a group that now highlights a head mid laner and best on the planet to combine with their title holder jungler, Choi “DanDy” In-kyu, who won the title a year ago with PawN.

Twitter troll turns into an ugly fight at DreamHack, Police deployed at the scene

Police were called to Dreamhack Winter this weekend over an altercation between CS:GO panel host Richard Lewis and Jonathan ‘Loda’ Berg, the captain of Dota 2 team Alliance.

In a tweet, Berg claimed to have been strangled by Lewis. In response, Lewis said that he had been provoked when the pro player “pushed his forehead into his face”. I spoke to a spokesperson for the Jönköping police department this morning. They were not able to confirm the official details of the incident at this early stage but did recall an assault being reported on Saturday.

The argument between the two began with this tweet by Lewis:

Lewis claims to have found the sign discarded the night before and tweeted the photo as a joke at the expense of Team Liquid CS:GO player Hiko. The sign had, however, been made by Kelly Ong Xiao Wei, the manager (and self-described ‘mom’) of Alliance. “I was having a bit of fun between myself and Hiko and had no idea who created the sign” Lewis later told me via e-mail.

She challenged Lewis about the joke on Twitter, as did her partner, Berg. Berg then asked Lewis if they could meet up to talk about it. It was while meeting backstage at the event that the alleged assault took place and the police were called.

This incident has resulted in fallout on Twitter and in the CS:GO and Dota 2 communities, as might be expected. Berg has been quiet about the issue since Saturday, but Lewis has been more vocal, contending with those who have criticised him and stating yesterday that “the way dreamhack handled things and what they asked of me makes it difficult to want to do an event for them again moving forward”.

I’ve reached out to all three parties involved, but at present only Lewis has responded to my request for comment. His account of the incident is quoted below.

“Backstage Loda’s girlfriend had come over first and was berating me and I told her in blunt terms to go away and if her boyfriend approached me I’d tell him the same” he writes. “I then informed DreamHack about what was happening on Twitter and was talking about the veiled threats of ‘I’ll come and see you’ or whatever.”

He is referring to two tweets by Loda. The assertion that these were veiled threats are Lewis’ and hard to verify, given the nature of social media.

“He walked over in the middle of that conversation shouting ‘what joke did you make about my girlfriend’ and came and stood as close to me as possible” Lewis continues. “No one intervened. He moved his head towards me until it was touching my face, so I grabbed him.”

“It’s not my proudest moment but I had a split second to make a decision. I don’t know this individual or what he is capable of. Had I not felt threatened I wouldn’t have acted to defend myself. As it happens after the whole silliness of it all we spoke and apologised to each other. That really should have been the end of it.”

Of his experience with the police, Lewis writes: “in regards to the police, the player called them as is his right if he felt he was the victim. They interviewed me very briefly, agreed that based on other eye-witness accounts that it was reasonable I might have felt threatened and recorded it as a matter of self defence. They took my details and said it was unlikely any further action would be taken. As I said, it’s all a bit silly and it’s a shame something so nonsensical as this has overshadowed a great event.”

Lewis expands on his account of the incident by writing that he has felt threatened at events before. “For a journalist and pundit like myself it’s not uncommon to be threatened by players who dislike things that I say about their performance” he states. “This has happened to me on several occasions. It wouldn’t be the first time someone attacked me at an event. I felt it could spill over into a physical confrontation so I acted on instinct. I regret it obviously but I think it’s fair to say there were failings on all sides.”

With this in mind—and lacking comment from Loda, whose account of the event could easily be different—I asked Lewis if he regretted that initial Twitter post. After all, calling somebody a ‘groupie’ that he’d ‘kicked out of bed’ was always going to hurt somebody, even if it didn’t hurt a public figure in the Dota community.

“Friendly trash talking is part of the camaraderie in Counter-Strike” Lewis writes. “The difference between joking with people you know and strangers obviously changes context. I will never be overly concerned about causing offence when I express myself and we use humour a lot in what we do for entertainment purposes. Some jokes land, some don’t, some upset people, some give everyone a laugh. Knowing where the line is isn’t exactly cut and dry.”

“Speaking of persona, I didn’t come into this to end up living a double life. I remain true to myself in my work and social media presence. I’m a very ‘what you see is what you get’ kind of person and always speak my mind. Some people will like it and approve, obviously others don’t. What I won’t ever accept is that I have to bow down to an internet mob and change who I am, especially when the furore is based on half-truths and misinformation. The reaction has been massively over the top and it’s amusing to me that so many, condemning me for alleged use of violence, would actually threaten me with violence without seeing the hypocrisy of that.”

At present, no official action has been taken either by DreamHack or by the Swedish authorities.

In an interview recently with Aftonbladet.se, Counter Strike’s one of the most beloved players and team manager, NiP, Emil ”HeatoN” Christensen said that Esports will be a bigger and larger sport than football, and that the way the technological and psychological emergence has been witnessed, it is going to be bigger with time.

heaton

Emil, who goes by the name HeatoN, has been one of those eSports professionals who are consistently proving to be one of the key role-players in term of systematical development. The development of the newly established industry is such as a visionary revolution with substantial growth and with the caliber and professional background of HeatoN in the industry, there are no contradictory opinions to the same.

I’ve made the journey, and I know what it takes.

A player, coach and currently owner of one of the top eSports organizations, HeatoN is one of those contributors to this industry who has seen through, felt the depth and analysed eSports from all possible angles. And comparing such a breathtaking sport Football to eSports, even if he is 50% correct. The prediction would surely revolutionize the way people see eSports as a profession and career.
