The fans worldwide are frantically looking for ways to score the latest console from Sony and as such many are falling victim to scams in the hope of getting the PlayStation 5 console.
With Christmas right around the corner, the demand for the PS5 is touching new highs every day. Due to exceptional demand and no sign of an increase in supply, many are left with no option other than contacting a second-hand seller on sites like eBay.
Even though sellers on these sites are charging more than double the price, fans are still foolishly shelling-out hundreds of dollars for the console. Scammers soon took notice of the craze around the PS5 launch and flooded the sites with fake listings of PS5 consoles trying to earn a quick buck while scamming several desperate people.
According to a report by Fox 13, a man from Utah looking to purchase a used PlayStation 5 on eBay was scammed by a seller who sent him a concrete block inside the package instead of the PS5. The worst thing about this incident is that the man paid almost $1,000 on this piece of brick that hardly costs a dollar.
While the local police of Utah said the person should get back his hard-earned money because of the various protections placed by eBay for the buyers, they warned the buyers to be careful while purchasing anything from an unknown origin as not everyone is lucky enough to get back their hard-earned money.
Recently another case of fraud where sellers who were trying to sell PS5 pictures instead of the consoles had angered eBay. Later the site promised its users that they will surely crackdown on such listings and taking legal against such sellers.
eBay released a statement at the end of November saying:
