RTI query officially confirms BGMI is blocked in country

Battlegrounds Mobile India and its blockage in India was a hot topic. TalkEsport first broke the news of BGMI getting banned in the country and following that, several official actions were taken. Although the blockage was very evident, no official confirmation was given this time.

This confirmation is now officially given in the form of an answer to a RTI Query. A RTI request was recently filed by a Twitter user to confirm if BGMI is blocked in the country and to know about the outcome of meetings between Krafton and authorities. In response to that, RTI query has revealed that BGMI is certainly blocked in India.

The official question and responses are as follows:

1) What are the reasons to take down Battleground Mobile India (BGMI) game from play store and app store?

Based on the requests received through designated nodal officers from Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) has blocked the gaming application battlegrounds mobile India (BGMI) under the provision of section 69A of the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking for Access of Inf. union for Public) Rules, 2009.

2) Is there any meeting /meetings with publisher Krafton regarding ban of BGMI from play store? And if so what are outcome of those meetings, please provide minutes of meeting.

Yes, meeting with representatives of Krafton were held. As per Rule 16 of Information Technoloav (Dracoda . Safeguards for ution by Public) Rules, 2009, strict confidentiality shall be maintained regarding all the requests and complaints received and actions taken thereof.

The requester also asked if Krafton had met the government authorities and a confirmation was received in the answer. They also asked for Minutes of Meeting or a short summary to understand what was discussed in the meeting but the reply cites a certain norm prohibiting the officials to share any information discussed in the meeting on grounds of confidentiality.
