EA Sports’ parting ways with FIFA has been one of the groundbreaking storylines in the gaming industry in recent times which begs the question about the next developer that will inherit the FIFA tag and whether they will be able to live up to the feats of their predecessor.
According to sources, 2K Games made a revolutionary step by obtaining the highly coveted FIFA license, opening the door for a brand-new line of football video games. This news, according to MohPlay Inc., was leaked a few days after FIFA President Gianni Infantino teased that they already have a new developer.
“We’re incredibly excited to partner with FIFA to develop a groundbreaking new experience for football fans worldwide,” said a spokesperson for 2K.
“This collaboration allows us to leverage our expertise in sports simulation and combine it with the unmatched prestige of the FIFA brand.”
The upcoming FIFA game will be named FIFA 2K25 which fits in tandem with the rest of the video game titles from 2K. 2K being a highly experienced developer in the sports simulation video games segment makes them an ideal candidate to develop the new football simulation game with the FIFA licence behind them.
The highly coveted FIFA license allows developers to inculcate the likeness of players, teams, stadiums, and more into the game. This is what kept EA Sports FIFA ahead of PES for a long time but now that EA Sports has their line of football simulation games having acquired licenses through different channels, it will be hard for 2K even with FIFA’s licensing rights.
