According to a new report, the latest cumulative update of Windows 10 has introduced a bug that causes lag and stutter while gaming with “Game Mode” turned on. The issue was brought to light by various users over /r/AMD subreddit where they reported game mode causing issues with games after the latest windows update. Game Mode is said to be negatively impacting the gameplay on both AMD and Nvidia GPUs, so the issue is affecting almost everyone right now.
With the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft introduced the “Game Mode” feature which automatically boosts the performance of the system while gaming. According to Microsoft, when enabled, Windows will automatically prioritize CPU and GPU resources towards the game. This helps in improving the responsiveness of the system and reduces input lag in games.
Currently, this bug is affecting gameplay of various titles such as Call of Duty: Warzone, Destiny 2, CS: GO, and League of Legends. According to reports, GPUs from both AMD and Nvidia are affected. These include the RX 5700 XT, RX 570, RX 580, and R9 290 from AMD and GTX 980, GTX 1070, and GTX 1080TI from Nvidia.
The easiest solution to improve performance is to turn off the Game Mode feature until Microsoft or AMD/Nvidia releases a patch. Head over to the Settings app and select Gaming. Now, under the game mode option toggle the button off. Just remember to keep an eye on this option every time the Windows is updated.
