With two back to back Aegises of the Immortal in the bag, Sébastien “Ceb” Debs did prove to be worthy as a player and a coach as well as he decided to step in as a player after the roster of OG saw themselves to be in a turmoil with OG’s former captain and support player Tal “Fly” Aizik decided to part ways with the team along with Gustav “s4” Magnusson. This roster move saw Ceb filling the void hence coming all the way in transitioning as a player from the coaching gig. Upon retiring after his successful run at those two successive internationals in 2018 and 2019, Sebastien might have taken a step back from playing in the pro scene but his optimistic approach towards the game hasn’t caught dust as he still continues to help OG’s players adapt a constructive mindset.
Earlier in the last weekend, we saw OG topple over Evil Geniuses twice in the Group C upper bracket semi-final as well as the Group C consolidation final. In these two meetings, we did see OG come back from a 0-1 deficit to secure series win with scorelines of 2-1 in both the series. During the breaks we did see Ceb going in the ring and having a chat with the players, having them go over a mental reset which did see Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen and his men overcome Evil Geniuses twice. In the due course, they did as well book their tickets to the BLAST Premier Spring 2020 Finals and grab up whopping prize money of $35,000. After the match, Aleksib upon being interviewed by Banks about Ceb’s role in mentoring the OG CSGO roster, he did state “I respect him because the way he talks, the way he can motivate people is just unreal,” Aleksib said. “I’ve never, never ever met a person like him.” When asked about Ceb’s influence on the team, he did call it out to be “a lot, honestly.”
One can witness Ceb’s inducing will to succeed in Valve’s True sight documentaries from 2018 and 2019 which do throw some light on his role as a mental backbone of the team and which does help players adopt a more stable mindset to face any pressurizing moments.
