Arceus, the deity of the Pokémon universe, might reign supreme in lore, but its upcoming TCG Pocket card appears to be surprisingly balanced. Debuting in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Arceus was introduced as a Pokémon god, the very creator of the universe. In the games, players even receive an avatar of Arceus to command in battle, cementing its status as one of, if not the most powerful Pokémon.
Given this legendary status, TCG Pocket fans eagerly anticipated the arrival of an Arceus card, expecting a game-breaking powerhouse. However, leaks suggest a different story.
According to Centro LEAKS on X, the Arceus card will headline the “Triumphant Light” set. A leaked teaser trailer showcases the Arceus Ex card, and it’s… well, not quite the god-tier card many envisioned.
Its most potent attack, “Ultimate Force,” deals 70+ damage. Respectable, sure, but hardly earth-shattering. Plenty of other Ex cards boast far more impressive damage output. It’s a bit of a shock to see a supposed god outclassed by, say, a Charizard.
While some players have praised the card’s “cool design” and expressed excitement about adding it to their decks, the general consensus seems to be one of mild disappointment. The card simply doesn’t live up to the hype surrounding the Pokémon’s lore.
That said, a truly lore-accurate Arceus card would likely devastate the TCG Pocket meta. Even the mainline Pokémon games take liberties with Arceus’s power, portraying it as an avatar of the true divine being. It’s likely that TCG Pocket is following suit, offering a balanced and playable version of the creator Pokémon, rather than one that warps the entire game.
