Astralis vs Liquid IEM Global Challenge Grand Finale Recap

Astralis vs Liquid Map 1 – Inferno

Starting on their pick, Astralis raced off to a swift 4-1 start after conceding the pistol round on their offense. Team Liquid soon was able to lock down the danes out of the bombsites after Keith ‘NAF’ Markovic 3k A-site defense followed by Jake ‘Stewie2k‘ Yip shutting down the danish terror outside the Banana.

But this wouldn’t last for the North American side as then the Danes stormed into the sites to lead the first half 9-6. Astralis soon edged themselves towards the match-point thanks to Andreas ‘Xyp9x’ Højsleth horrendous A site defense which saw the latter notch up a 4k.

The North Americans tried to claw all their way back up in the game with some breathtaking efforts but couldn’t live up to their mark as Astralis went 1-0 up in the Best of Series.

Astralis vs Liquid Map 2 – Overpass

Astralis came out on Overpass – their opponents’ map pick – with all guns blazing as they controlled proceedings from the outset. Strolling with a mammoth lead of 8-0 on their defense, odds seemed to shift out of their favor as they were outclassed by the North Americans in a successful A-hit.

Liquid then went into the break 2-13 chasing a eleven-round deficit as their round wins had been few and far between, despite Michael “Grim” Wince’s valiant efforts to put his team back on the track. Liquid did finally manage to take away the pistol round on their offense thanks to Grim’s 2k followed by the latter defusing the c4.

The game became lively from the midway point of the second half as Liquid struggled to maintain control. On a dream run, they did manage to ease out their deficit to a scoreline of 11-14 but somewhat lost their rhythm in the game eventually costing them yet another map win to Lukas ‘gla1ve’ Rossander and his men.

Astralis vs Liquid Map 3 – Dust 2

Going into the third map, Team Liquid were yet unable to float upon the Danish Perky waters where they were fumbled by the unstoppable forces from Denmark. After a 7-8 finish on the switch thanks to EliGE’s 4k A site defense, Astralis once again began to win their duels on a spree.

This was followed by Device sniping the entire North American side out of the A-site to secure Astralis their 22nd round in the one sided finale. With no gas left in the tank, Russel ‘Twistzz’ Van Dulken’s men looked destitute and listless as they succumbed to Astralis 3-0 in the Grand finale.

Later in a post-match interview, it was revealed that Twistzz has been replaced by Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo on the starting lineup.
