New Battlefield V Anti-Cheat Makes It Unplayable on Steam Deck

The introduction of EA’s new anti-cheat software to Battlefield V has completely broken the game on the Steam Deck.

Previously, we’ve seen the company introduce their new kernel-based anti-cheat to several popular games including EA FC 2024, Battlefield 2042, and Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2: Deluxe Edition, resulting in all of the aforementioned games being unplayable on the Steam Deck.

This is because the new EA anti-cheat requires Windows kernel-level access, something that Linux devices like the Steam Deck don’t allow.

Last year, EA said in a statement that the transition of Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield V to the new anti-cheat is part of their “ongoing efforts to create a safe and fair experience for all players.” They further claimed that players “won’t notice anything different when logging in and playing.” However, that may not be the case as the change has rendered both games to be now completely unplayable on the Steam Deck.

Some other prominent EA titles like Apex Legends haven’t switched to the company’s new anti-cheat yet. However, should the devs decide to introduce the kernel-based anti-cheat to the battle royale, Steam Deck players might have to bid farewell to the game.
