Revenant Esports, fresh off their victory at the VALORANT Challengers 2024: South Asia Split 2 and qualification for VCT Ascension Pacific 2024, found themselves embroiled in controversy at the tournament in Jakarta, Indonesia. Despite clear instructions to Riot Games’ VCT management regarding the dietary restrictions of their players, members of the Indian team were mistakenly served beef—a serious cultural violation for the Hindu players on the team. This incident sparked public outcry after star player SkRossi tweeted about it, though he later deleted the post.
Revenant Esports’ Players Express Trauma Over Beef Incident at Riot Games’ VCT Ascension Pacific 2024
Revenant Esports team, composed of six members, issued strict guidelines to the Riot Games’ VCT event organizers regarding their dietary needs, particularly that at least three members do not consume beef due to religious reasons and one due to personal preference. The team’s Hindu players—SkRossi, Skillz, and Tricky—hold cows in reverence, a sentiment deeply rooted in their faith. On the other hand, Paradox also mentioned that he does not consume beef. Despite being assured that chicken would be served, beef was mistakenly presented to the team, which they consumed unknowingly.
SkRossi initially took to Twitter to voice his frustration, revealing the distress and trauma the team experienced. In his now-deleted tweet, he shared how the situation was deeply traumatic for him after consuming beef unknowingly.
Tricky, another team member, echoed similar sentiments in his tweet. He stated that the organizers assured the players that they will serve chicken.
The breach in dietary preference struck a chord not only with the team but also with fans.
Notably, in India, where Revenant Esports is based, cow slaughter and beef consumption are culturally and religiously sensitive issues, especially for Hindus, who consider the cow a sacred symbol.
As of now, Riot Games has not issued any official response regarding the incident involving Revenant Esports at VCT Ascension Pacific 2024. Despite the controversy gaining significant attention on social media, where players like SkRossi voiced their distress, Riot Games has remained silent on the matter so far.
