The highly anticipated Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS) returned in 2024 with its third edition, promising an exciting journey like its previous editions. Notably, BGIS 2024 stands as the first official tournament of the BGMI 2024 Esports season and the first tournament since BGMI Pro Series (BMPS) 2023. With a staggering prize pool of ₹2,00,00,000 INR, this year’s event pledges to be bigger, bolder, and more intense than ever before.
BGIS 2024 Tournament Format
BGIS 2024 boasts a comprehensive format designed to test the mettle of the most skilled BGMI teams. Following is the complete detailed format of the tournament:
BGIS 2024: The Grind
BGIS 2024 commences with “The Grind” stage, scheduled to take place from 4th to 28th April. In this stage, 256 invited teams will embark on a rigorous journey to secure their spot in the Main Event. Divided into 16 groups, with 16 squads in each group, teams will engage in a series of intense battles over two weeks, with each group playing three matches. Following the initial phase, teams will be once again grouped based on their overall standings, setting the stage for another two weeks of the competition. As the stage concludes, only the top 64 teams, determined by their cumulative performance over four weeks, will advance to BGIS 2024: Main Event.
Round 1: The BGIS 2024 journey commences with Round 1, scheduled from 2nd to 5th May, where a total of 1024 teams will battle it out in in-game qualifiers. Divided into 64 groups with 16 squads each, the top 7 teams from every group, along with the top 32 from the rest, totaling 480 teams, advance to Round 2.
Round 2: The second round of the tournament starts from 9th to 12th May , and will witness 512 teams, including the cream of Round 1 and the bottom 32 from The Grind, competing over four intense match days. The top 7 teams from each group and the top 16 from the remaining teams, culminating in 240 teams, proceed to Round 3.
Round 3: The third round of the tournament starts from 16th to 19th May, featuring 256 teams, including the survivors of Round 2 and 16 additional teams from The Grind. These teams are arranged into 16 groups of 16 squads each, with the top 3 from each group, totaling 48 teams, securing a spot in Round 4. Additionally, the top 16 teams not making the cut advance to the Wildcard Entry phase.
Round 4: The fourth round of the tournament unfolds from 23rd to 26th May with 64 teams battling across four match days. The top 4 teams from each group, totaling 16 teams, earn a coveted spot in Semi Finals Week 1, while the remaining 48 teams proceed to the Wildcard Entry stage.
Wildcard Entry: In the Wildcard Entry phase, transpiring from 30th May to 2nd June, 2024, 64 teams vie for a shot at glory, with the top 16 teams, determined by cumulative overall standings, advancing to Semi Finals Week 1.
Semi Finals Week 1 kicks off on 6th June, featuring 32 teams competing over four intense match days. From Round 4 and the Wildcard Entry, 16 teams each fight in round-robin format, with the top 8 securing a berth in the Grand Finals. The remaining 24 teams proceed to Semi Finals Week 2.
Semi Finals Week 2, scheduled from 13th to 16th June, will witness the 24 remaining teams divided into three groups of 8, competing in a double round-robin format. The top 8 teams from this phase join the fray in the Grand Finals.
The Grand Finals, the culmination of BGIS 2024, is all set to take place from 28th to 30th June. Featuring 16 elite teams from Semi Finals Week 1 and 2, the Grand Finals promise three days of heart-stopping action across 18 matches.
