BGMI, PUBG Mobile players Allowed To Compete at Asian Games 2022

Great news came for the fans of Battlegrounds Mobile India, the most loved battle royale mobile game in India. Krafton, the developers of the Indian version of PUBG Mobile on Tuesday announced that Indian players will be able to compete and qualify for the official esports program of the Asian Games, 2022, via Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI).

Recently, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has confirmed that the 19th Asian Games that will take place in Hangzhou, China in September 2022 will feature 8 esports titles. Asian Games is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia.

This is the first time ever in the history of a multi-sport event, esports has been announced as the medal sport. Although, it did make an appearance in the 2018 Asian Games as a demonstration sport but made it through Asian Games 2022 as the official sport.

The esports titles included in the 2022 Asian Games are:

  • Arena of Valor (Asian Games Version)
  • Dota 2
  • Dream Three Kingdoms 2
  • EA SPORTS FIFA branded soccer games
  • HearthStone
  • League of Legends
  • PUBG Mobile (Asian Games Version)
  • Street Fighter V

Krafton said in the statement, “BGMI’s inclusion in the esports games bouquet exemplifies Krafton’s commitment to developing esports ecosystem globally and in India. Krafton has been investing heavily in the development of Indian gaming, esports, and IT entertainment industries with the establishment of its Indian office”.

With this announcement, Indian Players will also be able to compete at the event for medals. The event is scheduled to take place from September 10 to September 25, 2022, with teams competing from all corners of the Asian region.
