In the past, Activision came under the radar of fans for making their latest Call Of Duty Modern Warfare game a memory hog. With the constant updates since its release, the game has grown from an already massive install size of 175GB to over 200GB when Season 5 update went live. But since the release of Season 6 the size of the game has increased further to the point that a 250GB drive won’t be enough to even install the game.
Yesterday, BattleNonSense shared a screenshot on Twitter about the game asking more than 232GB space to install the update which is the max quantity a good quality 250GB SSD offers.
Soon after his Tweet went viral another user pointed out that the update that BattleNonSense was unable to install actually reduced the size of the game to 225GB, but since his drive was already at its max capacity that size reduction update refused to install.
With the release of Call of Duty: MW, Activision decided not to divide the game into separate Single Player and Multiplayer installs. Since COD: MW is a live service game, it received constant updates and a whole new Battle Royale mode added later.
All these updates together swelled up the install size from 175GB at launch to more than 235GB today (225GB after the latest update which reduces install size by 10GB).
Since it is becoming increasingly difficult for players to make space for a game this huge, players have repeatedly requested Activision to split the game into SP, MP, and Warzone installs, similar to how the older COD series games used to do.
