Chinese Overwatch League Teams Won’t Be Boycotting Saebyeolbe or Seoul Dynasty

Yesterday, we had reported that the Overwatch League’s Chengdu Hunters, Guangzhou Charge, Shanghai Dragons, and Hangzhou Spark had refused to participate in activities including Seoul Dynasty DPS, Saebyeolbe.

This decision followed some controversial political remarks that were made on Saebyeolbe’s stream regarding Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Saebyeolbe also posted a public apology for making controversial remarks through a handwritten note on his Instagram account. Clips recording the incident have now been deleted.

Today, as of 7th May 2021, the four Chinese Overwatch League teams have come to an agreement and will no longer continue to boycott Saebyeolbe or Seoul Dynasty.

“The Overwatch League is a global community, one made stronger by the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of our players and fans,” an Overwatch League spokesperson said. “We have discussed this matter with all teams involved and the learnings that have come from it. In the spirit of sportsmanship and continuing to deliver amazing competition for our fans around the world, the teams have agreed to resume normal activities with one another.”

All of the above-mentioned Chinese teams have posted statements regarding the boycott.
