The grand finals for Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship for 2020 has been put off, announced Activision.
In their official statement, they expressed their concern for the fans, players and everyone involved in hosting an event of that magnitude. Given the COVID situation, hosting an live event will put hundreds, even thousands of lives at a risk at the same time. As the cons out weigh the pros, Activision has called off the playoffs for 2020.
To be held in Los Angeles, this was the first big event for the budding scene of CODM that is to face an unsatisfying conclusion. Teams will miss out on the $750000 prize pool, along with the thrill to fight tooth and nail for it. Activision has decided to distribute the sum among the teams from regional playoffs, before expressing their excitement for the future of CODM as an esport.
The teams who made it to the CODM World Championship 2020 were:
- Rejection
- Influence Rage
- Tribe Gaming
- Kings Clan
- Team Mayhem
- T1
- NRX JEREMIAH
The World Championship was announced earlier boasting a prize pool of $1 million. It is unfortunate that such planning and investment in a growing scene will go in vain for unavoidable circumstances. Activision however promised to not give up on the scene yet, as they remain excited for its future like us.
