Control’s PC version initially launched as an Epic Game Store exclusive which caused an uproar amongst Steam enthusiasts given how all of Remedy’s titles were available on Steam, with the exception of Quantum Break which was exclusive to Microsoft Store on PC for a while.
Control eventually released on Steam after a year but only as a single, complete package dubbed ‘Control: Ultimate Edition’ which included all updates and ‘The Foundation’ & ‘AWE’ DLCs while users on EGS had the freedom to choose between Standard and Ultimate Editions with the freedom to buy the season pass at their own leisure.
This seemingly changed when March 2021’s Humble Choice included Control as an option which led fans to believe that it might be the Ultimate Edition for Steam users since it was the only version available on the platform. However, 505 and Humble were quick to specify that the Humble version is simply the Standard Edition and does not contain any downloadable content but users could buy the DLCs separately either from Humble Store or the game’s Steam page itself once the bundle is available:
NOTE: When redeeming Control via Steam key, users may see Control Ultimate Edition in their Steam library and during installation. Please disregard the Ultimate Edition title as the Steam key will only grant Control Standard Edition. For more information, click here.
But earlier this week, 505 Games removed both the Standard Edition, the Season Pass as well as the option to purchase the DLCs individually from Steam. Users will be greeted by the following message if they access the store page for either of the DLCs :
“Notice: At the request of the publisher, Control – The Foundation/AWE is no longer available for sale on Steam.”
It is unclear as to why 505 delisted the DLCs as a lot of Humble users will have to acquire a key for the Season pass through their store and is on sale for a Limited time, removing it from Steam itself makes no sense. Fortunately, EGS users can still choose freely between the versions. This isn’t the first time 505 Games have upset the fans as they announced that owners of Control won’t be eligible for a next-gen upgrade unless they own the Ultimate Edition of the game.
Control is available on PC, Xbox One & Series S|X, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Switch.
