In a letter written by Astralis pro Josefine “josefine” Jensen and her teammates of Astralis’ Counter-Strike 2 female team a request was made to Valve, urging them to include free female character models in the game. The team believes that the current lack of female character models discourages women from playing Counter-Strike 2.
In their letter, Josefine and her teammates expressed their passion for Counter-Strike, acknowledging its profound impact on their lives. They shared their enthusiasm and love for the game with countless other players around the world, emphasizing their sense of belonging to a global gaming community.
“Unfortunately, we currently feel we are only guests at the party. Using a female agent skin costs extra, while default skins are all male. We don’t know why it is so, but we know that it strikes us as being both unfair and a bit unwelcoming.” read the letter.
While the letter came across support from the community, the majority claimed that there are more pressing issues like optimisations and bug fixes than improving female representation in the game. The same people believe that adding female agents will not improve the quality of life or pull more players to the game which is why the developers should focus on the underlying issues with the game.
