Ahead of the second half of Counter-Strike 2 season, Cloud9 is reportedly bringing in former rifler and support player Timofey “interz” Yakushin to join a new core for the American organization after getting ousted from the same team a while back.
C9 has turned to interz at an hour of desperation, who was a member of the team in 2023. The 23-year-old support player was a vital component of the Gambit core that helped the Russian team consistently qualify for playoff events before Cloud9 singing them when esports organizers stopped Russian organizations from participating.
interz’s departure saw the arrival of Timur “buster” Tulepov who many believed would result in Cloud9 reaching the next level but the roster saw a handful of changes with only Sergey ‘Ax1le’ Rykhtorov remaining from the original Gambit core.
As Cloud9 looks to rebuild with a CIS core, they look hesitant to look beyond borders for new talent. interz will reportedly return to the team and likely assume his role as a support player.
Support players often tend to find themselves at the bottom of the scoreboard given the complexity of their role which makes it easy for the masses to overlook their contribution. interz was one of the foundational pillars behind the success Gambit achieved and with him getting benched, the roster went into turmoil.
With two more signings to come through, we are yet to see the final shape that C9 takes right ahead of the second half of the season. ICY, a 19-year-old Kazahkstani AWPer will reportedly be their next signing leaving room for one more signing.
