Counter-Strike Fans Express Concern Over Shanghai Major

Will the CS2 Shanghai Major Live Up to Expectations?

The second major of Counter Strike 2 is a few months away and the community is already showing concerns over events building up to the month-long festival of Counter Strike.

Major is the ultimate prize of any CS player and it has been this way since its inception. While other tournaments could rival the Majors in terms of hype or prize pool, the unique celebration of CS, that is the Major has always set itself apart as a final step to cement the legacy of a player.

Without any question, everything related to a major remains under the critical eye of the fans, and rightfully so however, the upcoming major has brought concerns over several areas of the tournament which the community believes could cause a debacle.

The least concerning of it all would be the sheer difference in timezone. Hosting a tournament in Asia would mean a massive inconvenience for the European audience who make up for the biggest chunk of viewership. Hosting a tournament in a time zone of stark contrast would mean turning your back on the majority of your viewers.

Open Qualifiers present fair chances to lesser-known teams who get a chance to impress against some of the more established teams. Talented players get a chance to stand out in these open qualifiers which helps them find teams in the future. While the Copenhagen major faced challenges dealing with cheaters from one qualifier, removing it completely for the next major was a harsh move against up-and-coming teams.

Regarding reputation as an organizer, Perfect World took a big hit for the Dota 2 Major debacle and fans found it utterly disrespectful not to allow English-speaking talents to host the event from inside the venue. To deal with this, PGL will be remotely broadcasting the tournament which only increases the chances of a plethora of technical issues.

Combining all the issues mentioned above, the community’s concern about the successful execution of the Shanghai Major is well-placed. Now only time can tell if they can tackle with all of this and host a great Major.
