IEM Katowice has yielded a surprise winner in Team Spirit who until this point wasn’t in any conversation as the favourites to win tournaments after a roster rebuild. One of the pillars of the said roster is a 17-year-old Russian CS prodigy Danil “donk” Kryshkovets who has shown rifling prowess, unlike anything we have witnessed before on the grand stage.
Team Spirit has undergone a plethora of roster changes in recent history and has managed to cause some notable upsets on big stages however the addition of donk has changed the outlook of the team. While most teams are built around AWPers, Team Spirit’s heavy reliance on a rifler was unprecedented but donk has delivered in aces and spades across the event proving everyone wrong.
Donk rose through the ranks of Team Spirit’s Academy and was swiftly promoted to the main squad in August 2023, showcasing impressive teamwork and camaraderie. From that point on, he consistently delivered stunning performances, earning two MVP titles. But it was at the BetBoom Dacha tournament before Katowice 2024 where donk truly made a statement, receiving his first MVP award and solidifying his position as the youngest ever to do so. And now, his remarkable debut at IEM Katowice 2024 is capturing the attention of fans and critics alike.
Team Spirit has managed to speedrun through the entire tournament dropping only one map against NAVI. While the performance of such an order was unexpected from a freshly minted team, fans have called into question whether donk is legit. Several notable members of the community have joined the conversation who are still dubious of his legitimacy.
