ESIC Bans Ukrainian Counter-Strike Players for Match-Fixing

Recent investigations by the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) have led to severe repercussions for four professional Counter-Strike players, casting a spotlight on the critical issue of match-fixing within the industry.

The Players and the Allegations

ESIC’s investigation targeted Dmytro “SENSEi” Shvorak, Maksym “THRONE” Semenov, Artur “DarkS1DE” Kravchenko, and Danylo “nat1ve” Bakin. These players, affiliated with teams Akuma, Project X, and Majesty, faced allegations of multiple breaches of the ESIC Anti-Corruption Code, backed by substantial evidence of suspicious betting activities surrounding their matches.

Each player’s involvement varied:

  • Dmytro “SENSEi” Shvorak reportedly attempted match-fixing at several LAN events with Team Project X.
  • Maksym “THRONE” Semenov and Artur “DarkS1DE” Kravchenko were implicated in similar activities during a Bulgarian LAN event with Team Majesty.
  • Danylo “nat1ve” Bakin also participated in match-fixing during this event.

ESIC conducted a comprehensive investigation, including the examination of betting evidence, match analysis, witness corroboration, and betting pattern analysis.

This meticulous approach led to the conclusion that these individuals had violated the Anti-Corruption Code, specifically related to corruption and betting activities.

The Charges and Consequences

The players were served with a Notice of Charge on October 24, 2023. None of the sanctioned participants responded to the notice. As a result, ESIC issued a Rejection Order, effective from October 24, 2023, to October 24, 2025. During this period, these players are banned from participating in any ESIC member events and are required to comply with all relevant provisions of the ESIC Anti-Corruption Code.

This situation underscores the importance of maintaining ethical standards in esports. As the industry continues to grow, the enforcement of rules and regulations to preserve fair play and integrity becomes increasingly crucial.

ESIC’s actions serve as a reminder that violations of trust and fair play carry significant consequences, essential for upholding the sport’s credibility.
