FaZe comeback against G2 to reach Semi-Finals of Blast World Premier

Two winners from Group B, FaZe and G2 took on each other in the upper bracket finals for a spot in the semi-finals of the Blast Premier World Finals. FaZe Clan made an incredible comeback after losing out on Inferno, Karrigan and the gang came out found themselves at a disadvantage on both maps that followed by were able to rob a victory right under G2’s nose.

Map Veto

  • G2 removed Overpass
  • FaZe removed Vertigo
  • G2 picked Inferno
  • FaZe picked Nuke
  • G2 removed Mirage
  • FaZe removed Ancient
  • Anubis was left over

Map 1: Inferno (Pick: G2 , Win: G2, Final Score: 13-7)

Inferno was one of G2’s go-to maps earlier but now with the addition of Nexa, they look to make it their playground once again. G2 got off to a strong start with a pistol-round victory. Hooxi despite failing to put up good numbers, called a well-coordinated T side that left FaZe’s defence without any answers. Nexa’s addition as an entry paid off as the phenomenal T side closed with an 8-4 scoreline.

G2 picked up their form from the first half and sailed to Map Point before FaZe could get a round on the board. NiKo after a disastrous Day 1, showed up with a completely different form, standing out as the best player for the team with 18 kills on the board and a rating of 1.64 in his comfort role of a lurker. G2 won their pick with a convincing 13-7 scoreline.

Map 2: Nuke (Pick: FaZe, Win: FaZe, Final Score: 13-10)

Nuke could be described as a NiKo show but a glowing underperformance from the rest of the G2 crew. G2’s defense was nothing short of solid. Having posted 8 rounds, they looked well poised to close the map once they went to their offense. They picked up 8 rounds even after losing the pistol and lost two more right before closing the half, making an 8-4 switch.

FaZe were able to turn the tides on their defence winning 6 rounds in a row as G2 lost their four-round lead. NiKo put up one of the most extraordinary displays of recent times putting up 30 kills and a rating of 1.84 but still failed to put it over the line on the T side. FaZe made both sides look like a fortress despite NiKo’s best efforts and finally closed the map with a 13-10 scoreline.

Map 3: Anubis (Pick: Decider, Win: FaZe, Final Score: 16-13)

FaZe started strong with a pistol-round victory and followed up with 3 more rounds before G2 could put a round on the board. Hooxi and co. were able to figure out FaZe’s defense with time but that wasn’t enough to close the first half with a lead as FaZe hit back to close the half with a 6-6 scoerline.

The second half saw a much closer contest with both teams trading blows and the shifting momentum made it hard to predict a winner as both teams looked well-equipped to take on each other. G2 reached map point first with 3 rounds in hand but FaZe made a comeback to push the game to OT. G2 looked like a team that had already lost and did nothing but win a single round before FaZe closed the map with a significant victory that will see them book a place in the semi-finals as G2 finds themselves in the quarters.
