G2 Beats Virtus.pro to Reach PGL Bucharest Semi-Finals

G2 Esports are in the semi-finals of PGL Bucharest, where a tricky Complexity side waits for them to fight it out for a spot in the Grand Finals. A convincing win over Virtus.pro will see them enter the semi-finals as clear favorites, with their star players in m0NESY and malbs firing on all cylinders.

  • G2 picked Mirage

Map 1: Dust2; Pick:VP; Winner: G2

Starting off strong, G2 did not lose a single round till the score line read 6-0, making it extremely difficult for VP to recover from. While G2 continued with the momentum, VP did manage to win a few rounds before switching sides. G2’s lead quickly vanished as VP converted 3 rounds to kick off their offense, but the second half saw both teams equally matched. G2 managed to outlast them while trading rounds by the end of the second half, as it took the last round of regulation for G2 to bring home their map pick.

Map 2: Mirage; Pick:G2; Winner: G2

Total control of the game to kick off Mirage, G2 outclassed VP for the entirety of the first half. With extreme difficulty, the Russian side managed to bring home 3 rounds, but G2 were too good for them to keep up with. VP did manage to win a few rounds off the back of a force buy conversion, but G2 did not let their comeback develop as they closed the game with a 13-7 scoreline.

Despite being under a lot of scrutiny, VP has shown valiant effort in Bucharest. Having taken down some big names, the VP roster has quite the future, but it is difficult to see with the same names.
