Following reports suggesting his departure from G2 Esports, Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kovac has announced on X that he will be staying with G2 Esports for now.
According to said reports, NiKo was on his way to Falcons, a team that will go under a massive roster rebuild under multi-major winning coach Danny ‘zonic’ Sorensen. NiKo was speculated to be one of the big names to join the team along with his teammate m0nesy after Emil “Magisk” Reif already committed to the project along with Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer.
NiKo confirmed on X that he will be staying with G2 Esports for the foreseeable future despite reports suggesting a deal was confirmed between G2 and Falcons. With a plethora of CS2 tournaments on the way staying with G2 will prevent him from undergoing a transition period under a whole new team.
“Happy to put an end to all the rumors, gossip and speculations with the final verdict – NiKo is here to stay at G2,” G2 General Manager Petar “peca” Marković said.
“As previously mentioned, we are of the firm opinion that he plays an incredibly unique role in our team that would be hard to replace, and we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve reached an agreement for him to remain with our team.
“Retaining the key player that helped us to clinch victories at two prestigious tournaments in 2023, we are eager to discover what successes the near future holds for us.”
G2 confirmed NiKo staying in their own way with a video on X. NiKo will be playing for G2 in Blast World Finals before the year ends and likely stick with G2 for the entirety of 2024. m0nesy who was rumoured to jump ship with NiKo is likely to stay as well at this point and it’s unlikely we see something from G2 esports in the transfer season.
The CS community were quick with the memes on X but suffice it to say, everyone is pleased with NiKo staying as under HooXi’s leadership, they looked like a team on their way to the top despite losing IEM Sydney but managed a top 4 spot. Rated as the number 3 team in the world, G2 Esports are going for gold and this would seem like a bad time to quit the project.
