Stewie2k Out of G2: TaZ to Stand-in at BLAST Spring Finals 2024

G2 Esports welcomes back TaZ as a stand-in for BLAST Spring Finals 2024.

After his fairytale run in Dallas, Stewie2k was hyped by fans to continue to compete for G2 Esports, especially with the BLAST Spring Finals 2024 being right around the corner however, as things stand, his tenure with the Europan side has come to an end.

The BLAST Spring Finals is set to start on 12th June and will feature seven of the top 10 teams. While IEM Dallas was a top-tier event, BLAST Spring Finals will be a tougher task as there won’t be any matches where G2 walks in as heavy favorites.

Stewie2k was brought in to replace Rasmus ‘HooXi’ Nielsen who had to drop out due to personal scheduling problems. NiKo took on the IGL duties as Stew filled in the roles that were left on the map. Suffice it to say, despite having a few good rounds, it was quite evident that he is past his prime and would take a lot of work to get back to that level.

Rasmus ‘HooXi’ Nielsen was heavily criticized by fans and analysts for being a weak link in G2’s squad along with nexa, but the omission of the Dane saw G2 bring home the first CS2 trophy.

Stewie2k is an exciting player who brings the hype to the games but that doesn’t always yield results and as G2 moves forward, they need to strengthen the side with their core team and the Major winner won’t be a party to it moving forward.

Following his stint with G2, Stew hasn’t signed with any team at the time of writing but his performance at the event might attract a few suitors and we might see the “smoke criminal” make a comeback.

According to recent updates, m0NESY has faced visa issues to which head coach and former pro TaZ will be stepping in. The G2 roster for the BLAST Spring Final 2024 will be:

  • Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač
  • Nikola “NiKo” Kovač
  • Rasmus ” HooXi” Nielsen (in-game leader)
  • Nemanja “nexa” Isaković
  • Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas (coach/stand-in)
