CSGO: FaZe take revenge against G2 in ESL One: Rio

FaZe have defeated G2 2-0

The ESL One Road to Rio has been quite a rollercoaster ride and we have seen a lot of upsets throughout the tournament till now, we had the next game of the evening that was Faze vs G2. Both the teams did not quite perform well in the ESL Pro League season 11. Although the last time both the teams faced each other we saw G2 taking the game with a closely contested matchup. We saw the clash of the brothers Nemanja ‘huNter-‘ Kovač and Nikola ‘NiKo’  Kovač and it was quite interesting to see how both of them gave their best for their team to win the game. The series ended with Faze winning the series 2-0 (22:20 on mirage and 19:15 on dust2).

The first map of the game was Mirage that was Faze clan’s pick and they started with a pretty impressive pistol round with Helvijs ‘broky’ Saukants picking up three quick kills from his glock. The buy round from G2 saw ‘KennyS’ picking some amazing kills from his favorite weapon AWP and securing the round for his team.

However, on the other side ‘Niko’ could not let his brother just win the game and he stepped up and got some quick kills for his team and took the scoreline to 11-4 at the end of the half. The second half started with G2 trying to go for the B site but Marcelo ‘coldzera’ David denying them with his USP and taking away the round from them and making it 12-4.

After that it was a different story altogether as we saw ‘huNter-‘ just going crazy with his AK and we saw him picking some insane kills and lead his team to 15-15 and taking the match in overtime. The overtime saw rounds go back and forth and it was 18-18 and the map went into the 2nd overtime where we saw ‘KennyS’ taking an incredible ace and scoreline going to 20-21 but ‘coldzera’ proved to be efficient and helped Faze finally close out the map 22-20.

The second map was Dust2 and it started with G2 taking the round with a very well executed A site play and securing the round. The buy round saw some great kills coming from ‘coldzera’ and opening the account for his team. From there on we saw some very competitive rounds from both the teams and the first half ended with 8-7 in favor of G2.

The second half started with Faze on the T side of the map and ‘olofmeister’ and ‘broky’ picking up 2 kills each to equal the scoreline to 8-8. We saw Kenny ‘kennyS’ Schrub clutching a 1v2 with just a scout and giving around to his team on an eco round. It was a very closely contested game where we saw some amazing plays coming from both the sides and finally Håvard ‘rain’ Nygaard clutching a 1v2 on the last round of the map and taking the game into overtime once again.

This overtime we saw Faze play very calm and composed and winning every single round and closing the map 19-15 as well as the series 2-0.

This matchup was a very interesting one where we saw the battle of two brothers in which ‘Niko’ with his team coming out on top and taking revenge from G2 for their ESL Pro league defeat. We will now see Faze next in action against Moviestars on Tuesday and G2 will face Copenhagen Flames the next day after that.
