CSGO: Uncovering the Rare Skins and Their Value

Several uncommon, valuable, and extraordinary skins command a premium price. Today, we will examine this collection to determine the most costly CS: GO skin. With the rising cost of CSGO skins, which is the most exclusive? Since CS: GO skins are freely swapped amongst players, we can reasonably accurately quantify the rarity of each one.

The value of a skin is determined by three elements, the most evident being its rarity. The more difficult it is to obtain rare skin, the more people will pay for it. The third factor is wear — some skins are more battle-hardened than others and appear as such in-game, affecting their market value. The final component is the StatTrak functionality, which will be described later.

In-game rarity is established by tiers, with eight tiers given to each skin. From least familiar to most, this is

  • Extraordinary (Gold)
  • Contraband (Orange)
  • Covert (Red)
  • Classified (Pink)
  • Restricted (Purple)
  • Mil-Spec (Blue)
  • Industrial (Turquoise)
  • Consumer (White)

Every skin in CS: GO is assigned a value between 0.00 and 1.00, with 0.00 representing a faultless version. Skin wear can be one of the following five qualities, from worst to best:

  • Battle-Scarred (0.46 – 1.00)
  • Well Worn (0.39 – 0.45)
  • Field-Tested (0.16 – 0.38)
  • Minimal Wear (0.08 – 0.15)
  • Factory New (0.00 – 0.07)

Generally, the better the condition, the more precious (and uncommon) the skin. It is because in-game, a skin’s wear determines how much skin is visible to the player. It is just a matter of preference, and some players may prefer their game’s cheaper, more battle-weary appearance. Factory New is the most costly CS: GO skin in terms of monetary worth alone.

The final consideration is whether or not the skin is a StatTrak skin, which monitors the number of kills a player achieves with a weapon over time. Not every gun has a StatTrak variation, but those are significantly more valuable than their non-StatTrak counterparts.

Most Expensive CS: GO Skins Ever Sold (2022)

The Karambit Case Hardened (Blue Gem) is a legendary weapon. It is indisputably the most expensive CS: GO skin in history and is one of a kind. For reference, each Case Hardened Karambit knife has a distinctive pattern, with varying degrees of rarity in the community. The all-blue pattern on one side of this Factory New pattern 387 blade contributes to the weapon’s notoriety.

In 2016, the owner, Newb Rage, paid over $100,000 for the skin. It has proven a wise investment, as its value has only increased since then. The owner claimed he received a $1.4 million offer for the skin, which he rejected.

Newb Rage has not yet disclosed its plans, and no offer has been made to entice them to sell. If they ever decide to sell it, the Karambit Case Hardened (Blue Gem) would quickly become the most expensive CS: GO skin ever sold, and it would undoubtedly retain that record for a considerable time.
