CSGO Skin Market Booms with Record $400,000 Sale of Rare AK47 Skin

An AK-47 Case Hardened blue gem, which is one of the rarest skins in the CSGO community, has just been sold for a whopping $400,000 USD, making it the most expensive CSGO skin of all time.

Ever since the Arms Deal update in August 2013, skins have become an integral part of the CSGO experience. While they provide no competitive advantage to the players, weapon skins can customize your overall gameplay experience in more ways than one. Furthermore, skins that are exceptionally rare are highly coveted by collectors who are willing to pay top dollar to add them to their collections.

The AK-47 skin that was just sold for a record price of $400,000, was not only one of the rarest skins in CSGO but also boasted one of the most precious sticker combos that the game has ever seen. It featured the ‘661’ pattern, which is the rank 1 blue gem pattern with the most amount of blue in it and was covered in 4x Titan Holo stickers from the Katowice 2014 collection.

Prominent CSGO skin trader ‘zipeL’ acted as a middleman in this exchange. He also informed his followers through a Twitter post that this was the second-largest trade deal in CSGO history and included two skins as part of the trade – the rank 1 AK-47 ‘661’ pattern ST MW with 4x Titan Holos and a Karambit ‘387’ pattern blue gem in the Well Worn condition.

The identity of the buyer is uncertain at the time of writing but is presumed to be a Chinese collector who also owns a Souvenir AWP Dragon Lore worth over $100,000.

The transaction happens just weeks after Valve announced the release of Counter-Strike 2. The Source 2 upgrade for CSGO is currently in a limited testing phase, with only about 3% of the player base being able to get access to it. Fans can expect the full release of CS2 to happen at some point in Summer 2023, as confirmed by the developers themselves.
