IEM Dallas 2023: Day 2 Recap

The ESL-powered Intel Extreme Masters: Dallas 2023 is finally underway and we have here with us a quick recap of the happenings around Day 2 of the tournament.

Before we nosedive into the same, IEM Dallas 2023 features 16 teams who have set sail on North American soil with their eyes on the Championship and a juicy $100,000 USD lion’s share from the prize money. North American-Russian side Cloud9 will be looking to defend their title from the 2022 iteration.

Day 2 in Dallas started off with Evil Geniuses almost forcing a 3rd map upon Complexity with the latter somehow escaping the chokehold. Evil Geniuses looked absolutely listless on Anubis after Ioannis ‘Johnny’ “JT” Theodosiou shut down their North American counterparts 16-2. Despite getting off on a commanding start on Overpass, EG were just not able to convert their momentum into forcing Inferno.

While on the other stream, we saw ENCE push FaZe Clan Down to the lower bracket after having booked themselves a spot in the playoffs. FaZe Clan will have to play Team Liquid in order to qualify further. Liquid who were earlier beaten by Astralis in their UB run now fight for survival.

Reigning Dallas 2022 champions Cloud9 were also toppled by Astralis, 16-8 on both maps. Cloud9 face Complexity in the Lower Bracket and will need to win both their fixtures as they would then await to play the winner from Liquid/FaZe clash.

Grayhound did turn some heads after they put up a strong show against Liquid, forcing North American-Latvian members out of their comfort zones. Critics on Twitter did favor the hounds, who could have won the series if only they had a coach behind them. Despite getting eliminated from the competition, Grayhound seem to be on the course of bringing Australian Counter Strike back into the fold.

The final day of IEM Dallas 2023 will see 6 teams lock horns for the last 2 spots at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. Below we have attached the Day 3 schedule from both groups.
