RpK to step down after Blast Premier Showdown, Vitality sign Kyojin

Team Vitality have announced that Cédric “RpK” Guipouy would be stepping down from the active roster post Blast Premier Showdown.

The French side will undergo a change after the completion of Blast Premier Showdown which will place RpK on the bench while Jayson “Kyojin” Nguyen Van would be replacing the 31-year-old veteran on the active roster.

Head coach Rémy “XTQZZZ” Quoniam said in statement,

It’s one of these tough decisions that we have to make. Cédric is an example of an achiever, consistent and inspiring player. The team is facing some difficulties and we need to find a new pace. It’s never easy to let a legendary, inspiring, and consistent player such as Rpk step back from competition, and we’ll do everything we can to support him in what’s yet to come.

This roster change comes after a series of inconsistent showings by the Team Vitality after an unsuccessful campaign at the recently concluded ESL Pro League Season 13 where the team was able to bag just 2 wins out of five in their group. Prior to the former, Vitality were unable to convert their winning momentum from ‘20 as they crashed out of the group stage at IEM Katowice 2021, eventually adding up to their misery.

During his time at Vitality, RpK steered his side to their first-ever win at the ECS Season 7 finals, followed by the championship at EPICENTER 2019 where they toppled Mousesports in the Grand Finals.

The French organization has decided to replace RpK with Kyojin, an unproven and unknown player who seems to have finally shifted gears ultimately leading him to join Vitality. According to XTQZZZ, the team will make sure to help him fit in the place, now vacated by Rpk.
