If you’ve been involved with trading CSGO skins at some point then you’re probably aware of CSGOREP and may have even used it in the past to verify the users you’re trading with. However, it appears like CSGO trading is about to get a whole lot riskier as Steam has banned the official CSGOREP group for violating the Steam ToS.
For the non-traders out there, CSGOREP is a Steam group that allowed users to check the reputation of others they trade with. Members used to earn reputation tokens for each successful cash trade, making it a reliable method to check out potential scammers and verify legitimate traders.
It was an extremely popular group, especially among high tier traders, and not to mention it was the biggest group of its kind.
Needless to say, fans are not happy about this move by Steam. Users are complaining that this can increase the chances of traders getting scammed by a margin and make it difficult for legitimate traders to make a good reputation for themselves.
Steam hasn’t specified why exactly has the group been banned, but they did state that the group has violated the ‘Steam Community Rules and Guidelines.’ It’s also unclear if there’s a possibility of the group returning in the future.
For now, users have to rely on other websites like SteamRep to check the authenticity of the players they’re trading with, which can often be less reliable than CSGOREP. SteamRep is a third-party website that allows users to check a user’s profile for all sorts of bans.
