After facing criticism over the absence of any in-game epilepsy warnings, CD Projekt Red finally announced a temporary fix rolling out before release, while devs work on a permanent solution.
Even before its release, Cyberpunk 2077 seems to be having a hard time as several fans seem to be offended by CD Projekt Red’s decision of not allowing reviewers to share gameplay footage before the official game launch. Since many reviewers claim the game is filled with several game-breaking bugs, the absence of gameplay footage seems like a deliberate decision by CD Projekt Red to minimize the outrage over bugs before the game launch.
Although the outrage over bugs was already hot, the topic of several areas in-game triggering epileptic triggers added more fuel to the already heated debate. Of particular note, a cutscene of the game’s “braindance” feature, which actually caused a game reviewer, Liana Ruppert to experience a serious seizure became the talk.
Game Informer editor Liana Ruppert published her review of the game yesterday where she talked about several areas in the upcoming game that could trigger epileptic triggers for sensitive players. Although it is common for games to feature such epilepsy sensitive parts, most of these game comes with an in-game message warning sensitive players about flashing patterns or lights that might result in a seizure. But in the case of Cyberpunk 2077, other than the included “Seizure Warning” buried deep in a 6,500-plus-word EULA that few if any players will ever read, no other in-game warning message or setting is present.
Cyberpunk 2077 Seizure Warning reads as follows:
Cyberpunk 2077 may contain flashing lights and images, which may induce epileptic seizures. If you or anyone in your household has an epileptic condition, please consult your doctor before playing Cyberpunk 2077. If you experience dizziness, altered vision, eye or muscle twitches, loss of awareness, disorientation, any involuntary movement, or convulsions while playing, immediately discontinue use and consult your doctor.
CD Projekt Red was quick to respond and announced that it’s working on adding a new epilepsy warning to Cyberpunk 2077 as a temporary fix for launch day while a more permanent solution is worked on and implemented as soon as possible.
