Popular TikTok celebrity Dixie D’Amelio has been criticized after an interview with Vogue, where she can be seen flaunting her “rich girl attitude” while boasting her privileges.
In the video, Dixie says “It was fun living with my family. But I also was supposed to be in college right now, so I thought I needed to learn how to grow on my own. And like mature. And I wasn’t doing that because I would just have my mom do things for me. So now living by myself, I still go home every day to my parents’ house and have my mom do things for me. But I mean, that’s what moms are for, right?”
The criticism was mainly for the part where she described how she skipped college because her day job as a TikToker made it too hard for her to focus on college. Further, she came across a TikTok video saying students would play [her] songs at a frat party” and that “I don’t think I could handle that level of embarrassment.”
Although millions of fans love Dixie and her sister for their content, it is widely believed their content at multiple points has shown no appreciation of the privileges that they are entitled to and lack modesty.
In another instance, an episode of ‘Dinner with the D’Amelios’ back in November featured Dixie spitting out a snail preparation laid out by her chef, which appeared reprehensible despite, her having no intention to disrespect.
Criticism on social networks
“Imagine getting into college AND having the money to pay for it, but not going because someone will play your song at a party,” one person commented on her interview’s clip-on TikTok. “The privilege here is ASTRONOMICAL,” someone else wrote.“Damn you don’t have to like Dixie, but there is no reason to be mean to her in real life. You can state valid criticism about her music, but no need to be cruel,” one added.
Though this has resulted in her getting severe backlash from the community, there has been many who has stood for her.
