Meet the F1 Esports 2022 Championship Winner

After a fourth-place finish in Abu Dhabi, Lucas Blakeley won enough points to be crowned the 2022 F1 Esports Series Pro Championship Champion.

After leading the championship from the very first round in Bahrain, Blakeley went into the final event with a 21-point gap to second place, needing only a top-eight finish to guarantee success.

It comes off the back of a dominant display on Thursday evening in Brazil, where he claimed his fourth win of 2022 to put himself on the precipice of the title.

The surprise pole position for Josh Idowu in Abu Dhabi was his first win in the Pro Championship. He was challenged by Thomas Ronhaar, who had slim championship hopes and gave him a fast first lap.

Ronhaar was the winner, Frede Rasmussen was second. Frede Rasmussen was third past Idowu on lap 3. Blakeley, however, kept his P4 grid slot which was more than enough to seal it.

Piotr Stachulec, Haas’ rear gunner, almost put Ronhaar back in contention. He sat on Blakeley’s front wing on Lap 20, Sergio Perez-esque, but it was too late. Blakeley passed down the back straight and then disappeared up the road. He wasn’t alone in feeling overpowered by Haas – Rasmussen passed Ronhaar Lap 24 and seized the lead with five laps to go. That’s how they crossed that line.

Idowu finished behind Ronhaar and Rasmussen, taking his third podium this season. Blakeley was fourth in title scoring, just ahead of Jarno Opmeer and David Tonizza.

Bari Boroumand sported P7. Brendon Leigh, the fourth and final champion of the grid, took eighth. Luke Smith and Nicolas Longuet completed the points.
