Weeks ago, a family made it to the headlines when a mother claimed that her son had spent a whopping $20,000 for donations to Twitch streamers. The mother shared the story through a Reddit post on July 18th. The (now deleted) Reddit post saw many people who had undergone similar situations coming forward to aid the family with helpful advice on how they could get their money back. The post went viral in no time and had over 1.2k comments to it.
The mother of the teenage boy reportedly claimed to have lost “years of savings” in just a matter of 17 days. The donations were made out to popular Twitch faces like Tfue and Gorb.
However, on August 7th, a Dotesport report stated that the family had recovered most of the $20,000 losses which they suffered from the donations made by the son.
The mother successfully received the refund after she contacted Xsolla – a paying service company that’s partnered with Twitch. The account was also “permanently blocked to prevent future unauthorized charges.”
“At this point, it’s within a few hundred dollars, and I am happy to have received what I did, and am not going to pursue the difference,” the mother said.
The mother also reportedly claimed that they had contacted Twitch for the refund but didn’t get a response from the streaming platform. The Twitch account through which the donations were made was also shut down, resulting in the loss of all the information on the transactions.
