Fnatic defeat Vitality to win DreamHack Masters Malmö

A new Counter-Strike champion has been crowned after six days of competition in Malmö, Sweden.

Fnatic are the champions of DreamHack Masters Malmö 2019 after defeating Vitality today 2-1 in the grand finals. They won $100,000 and scored their first point toward the Intel Grand Slam, as well as a direct invite to participate in IEM Katowice 2020.

Earlier in the tournament, they swept Astralis 2-0 on Overpass and Nuke in the semifinals, while Vitality stomped Natus Vincere 2-1 on Overpass and Dust 2 shortly after.

Spanning three games, the final took place on Dust 2, Inferno, and Mirage—all maps both teams are comfortable playing., a fact that became obvious as each game featured some palpable tension.

Vitality won Dust2 16-14 after Fnatic failed to find their momentum during the match. Jesper “JW” Wecksell grabbed 24 kills and got a 1.21 rating.

Inferno, on the other hand, was a closer fight. Fnatic were 15-9 ahead but lost their nerve after Vitality avoided elimination with only a force buy. The game went to overtime and Fnatic won it 25-23 as JW and Krimz shined with 30 and 28 kills respectively. This loss may be tough for ZyWOo, since the Vitality’ star finished with an outstanding 30 frags.

Fnatic continued their momentum, they managed to win the third map after a grueling back and fourth between the two sides. Fnatic star, Brollan single-handedly won the final round for fnatic after killing three frenchmen with just a CZ-75, concluding the game 16-13.
