Epic Games, the developers behind Fortnite, have recently announced a significant change that has taken many players by surprise: the cost of V-Bucks and other in-game purchases are set to rise in several countries.
Over the years, Fortnite has solidified its reputation as a popular platform for in-game purchases, with V-Bucks – the game’s virtual currency – being a highly sought-after asset among players. These digital tokens allow users to buy a wide variety of in-game cosmetics, making them valuable within the Fortnite community.
Despite the fact that V-Bucks are generally more accessible and affordable compared to in-game currencies in other titles like Call of Duty and Apex Legends, a noteworthy price increase has recently been announced.
Fortnite Announces V-Bucks Price Hike in UK, Canada, and Mexico
The countries affected by this shift are the United Kingdom, Canada, and Mexico, marking the first revision of in-game currency prices in Fortnite in two years. In a recent blog post, Fortnite disclosed that due to inflation, V-Bucks and other in-game bundle costs will rise in the UK and Canada starting July 17, 2023.
Conversely, Mexico will experience a decrease in V-Bucks prices and bundle costs due to currency changes in relation to the US Dollar.
Examining the price changes more closely, in the UK, the cost of the Intrepid Engines Pack will rise from £3.19 to £3.49, marking a nearly 9% increase. In Canada, the price will go from CAD $5.59 to CAD $5.99, a 12% rise. In contrast, the price in Mexico will drop from MXN $83 to MXN $79.
Despite these changes, the pricing of the Fortnite Crew Subscription will remain consistent at £9.99 in the UK, $15.99 in Canada, and $249 in Mexico. Prices for certain bundles including Dark Reflections, Magma Masters, Lava Legends, Summer Legends, and the Wish, Set, Match Quest Pack will be adjusted when they are reintroduced in the Item Shop.
These pricing adjustments illustrate the dynamic nature of Fortnite’s in-game economy, influenced by real-world factors such as inflation and currency changes.
