Epic Games has announced that Fortnite’s next in-game live event titled “The Device” and the upcoming Chapter 2 Season 3 update will be delayed due to widespread unrest and protests in the USA over the ongoing police brutality against Black citizens that caused the death of George Floyd.
In a blog post on the official website, Epic announced that the delay was in response to the current situation in the country. Epic believes it’s not the right time to announce something when the community as a whole is fighting for equality and justice.
“We’re acutely aware of the pain our friends, families, team members, players, and communities are experiencing. We believe in equality and justice, diversity and inclusion, and that these fundamentals are above politics. The team is eager to move Fortnite forward, but we need to balance the Season 3 launch with time for the team to focus on themselves, their families, and their communities,” Epic said in the blog post.
This is the third delay for Season 3 and second for The Device live event. The first delay was announced in April, and the second was announced last week in which delay for The Device live event was announced for the first time.
Epic announced that now, The Device will take place on June 15th and the next season, called Chapter 2 Season 3, will begin on June 17th.
The Fortnite update is the latest on the list of planned gaming events that were voluntarily delayed to show support for the BLM protests that are active in more than 50 states in the USA. This week Sony postponed the June 4th PS5 reveal event and EA postponed the announcement of Madden 21.
