Fortnite’s Creative mode has witnessed a meteoric rise in recent years, transforming from a side feature into a significant pillar of the game. The introduction of Unreal Engine Fortnite, which empowers creators with unprecedented design freedom, has only accelerated this growth. While not eclipsing the Battle Royale mode in popularity, Creative has become a substantial driver of player engagement, a fact recently underscored by Epic Games.
Data revealed by HYPEX indicates that Fortnite creators collectively earned a staggering $352 million from Epic Games in 2024. This substantial payout reflects the value Epic places on the engaging maps and experiences crafted by its community. Notably, seven individual creators surpassed the $10 million mark in earnings solely from their work within Creative mode.
The financial success stories extend beyond the top earners. Fourteen creators received at least $3 million, while 37 achieved millionaire status with earnings exceeding $1 million. The distribution of funds also highlights a broader level of success within the Creative community. 154 creators earned $300,000 or more, and 418 received at least $100,000. Further down the scale, 7,000 players earned between $1,000 and $10,000, and over 13,000 received at least $100. These figures demonstrate the potential for creators of all levels to generate income through their contributions.
Epic Games also disclosed the impressive playtime statistics for Creative mode. In 2024, a remarkable 36.5% of total Fortnite playtime was spent within Creative Maps, representing a 5% increase compared to the previous year. This translates to an astounding 5.23 billion hours dedicated to player-created content.
