Fortnite Wastelander Challenges: Locations, Modifiers, and Rewards

Fortnite’s Wastelander Challenges, introduced in Season 3, offer players an exciting twist to the traditional gameplay. These challenges, which increase the game’s difficulty, provide an opportunity for players to earn bonus XP and exclusive rewards. The challenges involve various gameplay modifiers, such as constant movement to avoid damage or staying in vehicles and buildings as the ground turns into damaging lava.

Initiating Wastelander Challenges

To embark on a Wastelander Challenge, players must visit one of the Wasteland Beacons scattered across the island. These beacons, once activated, present a challenge that players can choose to accept or decline. The four known locations of the Wasteland Beacons are:

  • Rebel Roost
  • Slumberyard (east of Classy Courts)
  • Dumpenhausen (south of Reckless Railways)
  • Dock south of Megalo Depot (southeast of Brutal Beachhead)

It’s advisable to visit a Wasteland Beacon early in the game as they become deactivated after several storm circles have passed.

Gameplay Modifiers and Effects

Upon accepting a Wastelander Challenge, a difficulty modifier is applied for the remainder of the match. This modifier not only increases the game’s difficulty but also the XP earned, particularly for completing Fortnite Accolades. Once activated, the modifier cannot be disabled. Some of the possible modifiers include:

  • Burnin’ Hot Items: Picking up items causes damage
  • Full Throttle: Remaining stationary causes damage
  • The Ground is Lava: Touching the ground causes damage
  • Jammed Clips: Reload is not usable
  • Perma-Damage: Health and Shield items are not usable
  • Unshielded: Shields are not usable

Rewards and Benefits

The Wastelander Challenges offer players the chance to earn bonus XP and exclusive rewards, such as the Wastelander’s Mark Wrap for achieving a Victory Royale with the challenge active. The bonus XP contributes to the progression of the player’s account level. Additionally, players can earn XP from Accolades, which are a crucial part of each Wastelander Challenge.
